COVID vaccines and neuropathy

Posted by cue @cue, Feb 15, 2021

I am 85 with small fiber neuropathy that is getting worse. My neurologist thought it would be a good idea for me to wait with the covid vaccine and not be first in line to see how it affected other people with neuropathy. Probably because it is a new technology. Has anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine? If so, which vaccine?

I know it’s been a while but in case you’re still checking, can you tell me if you took two Covid vaccinations in total? curious after some things my doctor recently told me about the vaccines. The findings continue to be negative.

Unfortunately, more ugly stuff popping up all the time about those vaccines and boosters. You don’t hear about it, but ask your doctor and if he is forthcoming, he will share. Mine did!

Just to keep things balanced, I have chemo induced neuropathy. I found red yeast rice which has the same active ingredient as statins did almost immediately worsen my neuropathy. My neuropthy has been pretty stable for three years with that exception. I had the first Pfizer shot with all the boosters from May 2021 thru July 2022, and I had the newer shot last November. My intent is to get both the flu shot and newest covid shot in the next few weeks. None of the covid shots worsened my neuropathy.

The cardiac autonomic neuropathy called CAN started after my second Moderna. It’s getting worse. There is nothing that can be done about it. The electrophsiologist and cardiologist give you about 8-10 years left to live. Your blood pressure goes up and down along with your heart beat bradycardia/ tachycardia.
Makes you really dizzy and light headed.

Yes I was diagnosed when I started taking prednisone for the inflammation from the Lupus. I had the neuropathy before I became a diabetic. I have nerve damage from the Lupus my neurologists told me.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I never heard of cardiac autonomic neuropathy. What are the symptoms? Do they think it's from the vaccine and all the boosters?

It's so easy to blame the vaccine when most of the time it is merely a coincidence. It was big news when during clinical trials for Moderna a small percentage of participants developed Bell's Palsy. People got all excited. But it turned out that percentage was the same percentage as the general population developing Bell's. In other words, they were going to develop it anyways. Sometimes it's impossible to determine what exactly is the cause, and I believe that while the vaccines can have adverse side effects they are getting blamed with medical issues that were going to develop regardless.
