Watchman device followed by multiple auras

Posted by kathrnlnc @kathrnlnc, Oct 4 10:41am

Acquired Hemophilia (now in remission), atrial fibrillation with h/o stroke. Watchman device because I am at great risk of bleeding with anticoagulants. Episodes of optical auras (no migraine) started in post op. Thirty six episodes since 5/14/24. I’m told it’s related to iASD created by catheter crossing septum during procedure. I also have a leak in the Watchman so I remain on low dose Eliquis. I don’t see Cardiology until 12/24 after echo. Can anyone else relate?

Hi Kath
I had a Watchman implant 4 wks ago. Sorry to hear about your auras. Fortunately they don't become migraines.
I am most concerned about the leak in your Watchman. Is your cardio concerned? What is being done to close it?
My prayers 🙏 are with you.

Thank you for your prayers! I am continuing on Eliquis. “It should close on its own in 6 months.” I was told I wouldn’t need to be seen again and wouldn’t need any more imaging. As a nurse, I was a bit puzzled by that. When I discussed the additional vertigo and other odd symptoms with my Primary, she suggested contacting cardiology and updating them. I now have an echo and follow up with cardiology in December. It all gets so complicated!
