Vitamin B complexes.

Posted by bigjohnscho @bigjohnscho, Jun 25 9:45am

I take a vit B complex capsule everyday for my PN. Lately I learned that some of the vitamins are not in their most bioavailable form, for example B1 thiamine should be Benfotiamine and B12 must be methylcobalim. Has any one sussed this problem out.

I have searched the various treatments for peripheral neuropathy until I’m blue in the face and I am no nearer selecting one. The only one that seems to show promise is R-ALA and Benfotiamine. Unfortunately when I tried them I got an upset stomach so I’ve stopped taking them. The clinical trials I’ve seen seem to show that R-ALA and Benfotiamine are the only supplements that work. I’m completely baffled. I took a relatively low dose I.e. 200mg R-ALA and 300mg Benfotiamine. Any advice please. John

I have just started taking ALA 600 mg capsules twice daily - after food - so no no upset stomach. I am hoping this will help with the internal vibrations I’ve had for last 6 months. My doctor also gave script for endep 10mg 2 at night before bed. Early days

Solgar has a sub-lingual methylcobalamin 1000mcg.

Has anyone heard of the MTHFR gene? I was tested and have this gene. Basically this means that my body does not metabolize B Vitamins well. B vitamins are critical for nerve and brain health. I use methylized B Vitamins and it has really been a game changer for my numbness and tingling in my legs. The MTHFR test is offered several companies. Seeking Health and Life Extension are two companies that I know offer this test. Millions of people carry this gene.

Thanks. My mom has trouble with B12 like me. I will explore this idea. I bet insurance doesn’t cover the costs for test.

Hey there, I can’t Sleep and I looked at my Email n this Link interested me. I caught the Vitamin idea and I’ll go with that about the RLS. But your message caught my eye you mentioned Internal Vibrations ? How long have you had yours and what tests have been done ? ✅ Where are your Vibrations located ? I’ve been dealing with this since Mid Sept of 2020 n NO Doctor has an idea what it is. I know I’m Not the only one , because I’ve seen a few Stories on here where People are having the same issues. Mine are 24/7 n don’t calm down unless I’m having a Surgery where I’m pumped with Antibiotics or Steroids. Have you had any similar experiences ? Please reach out to Me if you ever and Anyone else who finds out how to get rid of these. I don’t Sleep well no more. It’s from my Feet up to my Bra line. It’s miserable where it’s hard to function. I’ve had a Spinal Cord Stimulator put in 2007 for RSD. It was taken out in 2021 as the Battery died plus it wasn’t working for me or helped with the pain of the RSD. It’s the same feeling, the Zapping sensation as these Internal Vibrations. It’s driving me Mad. Many Neuro’s of all depts. many tests n Scans shows nothing. Many other diff types of Drs from just about every Dept. Still no idea to explain these. It’s hard to be on my feet at times. I’m in my 60’s and I’m fighting this. I need these gone. So anyone having a helpful idea of where to start next. I eat right, taking all sorts of diff Vitamins to see if they’ll help. So far it’s a loss cause. It’ll be 4 yrs that I’ve had these in 2 months. There’s gotta be a Solution to this Madness. God Bless you 🙏

I know the feeling. I am 82 and thought my last years would be at least have peaceful sleep. Started internal vibrations January this year, can feel it most times during day when not active but can put up with it. Night time in bed has been awful feel the vibes from top to toe. I haven’t had any tests but my doctor says no one knows why it happens or how. And no I’m not going loopy! He prescribed Endep 10mg 2 at night, these are an antidepressant but I’m not depressed, excuse the expression I am pissed off. Ok I consulted a pharamacist. Let him know my history and medications etc, he suggested ALA alpha lipoic acid a super Antioxidant 600mg twice day after food. Early days but it has helped at night - if I feel the tremors start I then take a 10mg temaze - I do feel for you. But you must consult before taking any of what I am taking. Also when vibes bad I have put lot of pillows behind my head so that I am sort of half sitting sort of stops the vibes going into my head, it might help when things been really bad have thought well I’m in a warm cosy bed I’m not homeless, just lay there and go with the flow. Long answer I know but hope it may give some hope. I live in Australia.

Not sure this will suss it out for you but the references may help. I myself stay away from B complex vitamins due to the B6 content which can make neuropathy worse. The following information is extracted from the Why the Protocol document in the FAQs from the Protocol website that I have been using since 2016. Here's the link to the FAQs on the website - https://theprotocolworks.com/faq/.

--------------
B1 Thiamine 50 mg - Altogether, vitamin B1 (thiamine) plays a pivotal role in the process of nerve regeneration: in nerve cells, it facilitates the usage of carbohydrates for energy production and protects them against oxidative stress, resulting in normalized pain sensation and reduced hyperexcitability.

B2 Riboflavin 50 mg - A 2017 review indicates that supplementing with B vitamins has the potential to promote nerve repair. This may be because B2 can speed up nerve tissue regeneration and improve nerve function. B vitamins may also be useful in relieving pain and inflammation.

B3 Niacin 20 mg - Among the B vitamins, niacin has long been recognized as a key mediator of neuronal development and survival, and may be of value for the treatment of neuropathy. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7737454/

Biotin 20000 mcg - Biotin can be considered as a potential therapeutic for the treatment of neuropathic pain, and supplementation with this vitamin could reduce the required doses of analgesic drugs. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8216157/

B Vitamin discussion: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8294980/.

Methylfolate 400 mcg - methylfolate is the active form of folic acid. The administration of l-methylfolate has been associated with increased levels of nitric oxide, thereby increasing blood flow to the peripheral nerve tissue.
https://www.hmpgloballearningnetwork.com/site/podiatry/blogged/why-you-should-consider-use-supplements-management-diabetic-neuropathy.
Methylcobalamin B12 4000 mcg - Methylcobalamin helps in the synthesis of neuronal lipids, regeneration of axonal nerves and has neuroprotective activity, which promote neurons to function in proper way and thus improves Alzheimer disease, Parkinsonism, Dementia and neuropathic syndromes. It is an approved treatment for peripheral neuropathy.

The protocol I take has combined some of the supplements into fewer capsules. I take 4 in the morning and evening, and 2 at noon that need to be taken at a different time for better bioavailability. 2 of the 4 I take morning and evening are the r-ala (600 mg morning and evening).

All of the ones listed in the protocol are combined into 4 different capsules to reduce the number of capsules you need to take. Link at the top of the post takes you to the site. You can order each supplement separately if you want but it's a little more work and requires research on quality/brand/price. A good site is Consumer Labs - https://www.consumerlab.com/ but to read the full reviews you have to be a member which costs a monthly fee.
