Anyone treating palpitations with ibuprofen? I did and WOW!
For 9 months I have had daily, non stop, never ending bigeminy (double heart beat every other beat) since I had Covid last November.
I usually never take ibuprofen but a month or so ago, I had a bad knee and took 1/2 of a 200 ml of Motrin. The entire next 20 hours or so, I had normal heartbeat with no palpitations. So I tested it out, figuring it was a very nice coincidence but just a coincidence. I waited two days and took another 1/2 of ibuprofen, within an hour, palpitations stopped for an entire 24 hour period. I mentioned this to my Primary Care Doc but was flatly told that one has nothing to do with the other. However, knowing that Covid symptoms are reportedly caused by inflammation, and ibuprofen treats inflammation, why wouldn't it help?
And then, I found this article originating from Mayo Clinic: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/heart-inflammation-after-covid-19
It may not be a cure, and I have not taken ibuprofen in 30 years, until I was in so much pain, and then this happened. My issue is, ibuprofen is high on a list of no no drugs, especially for elderly people. But if afib, or heart palpitations are constant, or off and on, when someone over 65 has it from long Covid, which is worse?
Thanks for reading this.

I use fish oil to treat my heart palpitations. My partner's cardiologist recommended it for him. I've been a vegetarian for 45 years, but when going through infusions and stem cell transplants for Multiple Myeloma, I decided to try it. It has pretty much eliminated palpitations I've had my entire life.
Can you ask the doctor who said it’s from long covid to recommend a doctor in NJ? I was recently diagnosed with bigeminy/trigeminy - status post exposure and mild covid symptoms.
@barbararn I will ask the doctor but not sure I will get a response. He is a doctor scientist and is in charge of several cardiac labs with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. I will see if he responds but it actually is not his specialty other than this man is a genius.
Have you tried this organization? There seems to be plenty of docs treating long Covid in New Jersey. Here is one: https://www.rwjbh.org/rwj-university-hospital-new-brunswick/treatment-care/covid-recovery/
It took me several months to figure out just who to see, I needed a specialist regarding extreme high gene cholesterol. I found the trials at Johns Hopkins University Hospital.
@barbararn Johns Hopkins top cardiologist for arrhythmia has read all of my tests, heart monitors, echos, trials of inducement, etc. and one thing that stands out is I have two irregular heart valves but not life threatening. These were picked up in the transesophageal echocardiogram which picks up images from inside the body. This particular echo is the entire cardiac system scan and takes over an hour. Because I am improving by just taking one ibuprofen every 3 days (100 mg) I am hoping PET scans and the like will not be necessary. Thank you for your insight.
HEY HEY HEY! I just want to let everyone know that there was a light at the end of my bigeminy palpitations and several quick bouts of aFib from COVID. Almost to the day, One year ago in November, I contracted COVID within a few weeks I had 24/7 double/triple heart skips coming from the Mitral Valve as well as Tricuspid valve. This was determined by Johns Hopkins specialists to be related to LONG COVID. I was placed on beta blockers. They did not help as I was already taking 25 mg. I could not get my regular doctor to agree so I went ahead and researched. For two months I took 100 mg of Doxycycline each day, and 100 mg of iBuprofen twice a week. (I cannot take much of it due to asthma). I am happy to say that two weeks ago, all palpitations and irregular heartbeats are gone. ALL GONE, after almost a full year. I don't know if one has anything to do with the other or if the symptoms went away naturally. All I know is they have gone away at least for now. When I realized that COVID was causing inflammation of organs in humans, including the heart, my thoughts immediately turned to "get rid of the inflammation!" The drugs mentioned are not necessarily benign so check with your doctor. I think as long as you don't take the Motrin or whatever in any large quantity or have allergies to them, it would be ok but do check with the doc. I had not taken any ibuprofen in over 40 years. I didn't trust it and still don't. But in this case, I do think it cleared up the cardiac inflammation.
I sure hope everyone on this board finds relief!
I must say that I’m envious but very happy for your success with these meds helping you, I think I spoke with you a while back about this. I have the palpitations too since covid infection in 2022 and I knew that Advil causes me tinnitus but after I read your comment I thought I’d give it a try, I managed to take 100 mg. for about 2 weeks, just twice a week. Inevitably the dreaded tinnitus made its appearance and that was enough, this ailment has been in my life for years but I slowly learned what sets it off, anti inflammatory medication and also aspirin and alcohol. It’s sometimes a trade off with meds, what bothers me most but it’s all a pain in my butt, figuratively speaking. This is a very good thing for you because no one wants their heart to beat too fast. Perhaps you will help others with this discovery, sometimes we have to take charge of our own health.
