Can anyone recommend a good wireless bed/chair pad alarm?

Posted by oldestson @oldestson, Aug 10 11:47pm

My mother is 89 and has dementia (not too bad yet) and is very feeble. I need a good reliable wireless bed alarm to alarm the caregiver in other part of the home if she gets out of bed. Can anyone recommend an alarm system they have found to be reliable?
Thanks

Hello…I noticed this thread a while ago and looked up “alarms for the elderly” on Amazon. There are many types for different purposes available there. I have no knowledge of which are good or not, but since no one had responded and my curiosity sent me on a short interest trip to Amazon I thought I would pass that along.

Maybe an AirTag that is inserted in a little necklace might be helpful, but I am not sure what the distance is before the AirTag shows that your mother has moved. It may be worth a call or an email to Apple Support to ask that question.

I bought from Amazon a “Smart Caregiver Light Outlet with cordless gray floor mat with cordless alarm” in February and have had a good experience using it. It turns the bedside light on when a foot touches it plus chimes an alarm for the caregiver as far as 300’ away. The light is turned off with a remote button so the bedside light can be lit again easily.
The chime alarm is a godsend. The auto light worked great for several months but I’ve had trouble with it lately. It may be my outlet that is the problem. It took me a few minutes to set it all up but boy it’s great! If my husband naps I can move the alarm into the room where I am. It uses D batteries, which I have not yet needed to replace.
