How many PACs or PVCs are considered too many to require treatment?

Posted by sundancekid @sundancekid, Aug 23, 2022

I have at times having up to 6 ectopic beats per minute, or an average of 800+ ectopic beats per day. Is it time to be concerned?

If not, at what number of ectopic beats would need medical treatments?

Thank you.

My PAc's and PVC's started when I was 26. I'm 73 now. It seems I go through periods when I have very few, almost none, then there are times when I feel I have so many in a day. I'm on Metoprolol ER 12.5 mg daily more for blood pressure then the beats. My life is very stressful. My husband has dementia, along with other mental conditions and I believe that has alot to do with them. When I am upset so is my heart. After all these years I find I can control them better with thought and concentration. A positive mind set can help. There are times when they become bothersome and I'm all the way down the rabbit hole.

Dear blue717,
So sorry to hear about the difficulties that are bringing on stress. I'm also someone who has had irregular heart beats for nearly 50 years. I used to think stress was just a normal way to live, but find that my irregular beats are definitely more likely to occur in times of severe stress. I've been doing meditation and exercise regularly to see if it helps. I just started wearing a smart watch to do ECGs as well.

I wish you well on your journey.

Have a regular heartbeat most of my life and I'm 62 years old. Some days I feel like every 10th beat is a regular heartbeat. I feel like I wasted my time for 4 years with this loop recorder in my chest and I would transmit several recordings every day of my heart fluttering and jumping and skipping beats yet the loop recorder never red flagged any of it and always said my heart was in a normal heart rhythm during all the times I transmitted recordings. My doctors had me on metoprolol for about 20 years and I'm beginning to think this metaprolol is causing my heart to have more irregular heartbeats

I have had metoprolol for over three year, which never reduce my PAC and PVC in any meaningful sense. My recent Holter indicates I had a burden of 40% and my EP put me on Flecainide 50mg bid along with 25 metoprolol daily. After one week, I just dropped metoprolol completely without approval of my EP, but almost immediately gets back my regular heart beats. So I share your thought that it is metoprolol that has caused my heart to have more irregular beats

I am not quite sure but I am having between 9500-10,000 PVCs a day, it's a pain and I have been told that's a lot of PVCs. At this point, I can barely function. I am waiting to have an ablation, but places are so booked! One thing that the EP doctors have told me was that if the heart itself is structurally okay, you have less things to worry about so I am just keeping my fingers crossed!
