Skin changes with prednisone

Tylenol Arthritis (acetaminophen) is the same thing as Australia's Panadol Osteo (paracetamol), which my doctor said is okay to take with Prednisone. They are not NSAIDS (non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) which are not good to take with prednisone. Ask your doctor to be sure, but my doctor has recommended I take the Panadol Osteo as needed, which isn't very often.

Yes, it does get better. I know exactly how you feel cause I’ve always had nice skin and I have these ugly “capillary bursts” on my legs that I know won’t go away! But I do have less of these things as my prednisone dose went down, lol! Good luck to you!

Yes I use to do that on my patients who bruise easily and had thin skin—so much less chance of a big bruise— some patients just bruise the second you put the needle in, no matter how gentle you are with the butterfly needle! Also helps to use the self adherent elastic wrap that sticks to itself instead of tape!

Yes it is fine to take Tylenol arthritis formula. Just don’t go near any of the NSAIDS like ibuprofen or naproxen as these do not mix well will prednisone and would cause stomach upset or worse! ☹️
I personally use Tylenol ES , 500 mg rapid release capsule ( 2 capsules) because of the quick release feature, but I think the arthritis formula might be a little stronger.

I have been off prednisone for three months. The only bruising was on my left arm during the time I was on the medication. It cleared up finally.

You can also use self adhering bandage wrap that sticks to itself. You can get it at Target , CVS etc or even on Amazon.

Yes that is great too! One of my staff at the time was a clinical wound
specialist so I always had a professional on hand!

I was diagnosed with PMR in January 2024. My skin bruised and tore easily when I was on 30 mg of prednisone, but that is much better now that I have tapered down to 11 mg. However, the sometimes severe edema of the feet and ankles continues. I have had complete cardiac workup, which was negative. I take a diuretic, wear compression hose and elevate during the day, which helps a little. Often at the end of the day the bottoms of my feet are bright red. There are no open areas or pain, and my pcp had no explanation. I am wondering if thinning skin is the cause. Anyone else had this?

eek ! The first time I had bleeding because of "thin skin" because of Prednisone was when I was at work wearing lab coat. I bumped into the corner of the lab bench-- the Lab coat absorbed all the blood so a giant red blotch appeared !! In the garden I noticed just have a stick scrape or touch my forearms caused bleeding. It will get better. That said -- did anyone else lose their hair during PMR ?? I must have lost about 3/4 of my hair - when it all started growing back it was hair-do nightmare. A minor issue considering all the other bad things going on in the world!
