Mucus in throat

Posted by karen10225 @karen10225, Jul 24 12:38pm

I constantly have mucus lining my throat even after saline nebulizer. This makes me have to clear my throat all day. Does anyone have a suggestion for this? I am really growing weary and wondering how to get through each day. I have had bronchiectasis for 20+ years and mycobacterium simiae for about 4 to 5 years. I have chosen not to treat due to many other health conditions. All I can do is airway clearance, some exercise and eat a decent diet. I see my doctors every six months, but that really isn’t much help. HELP

Hello, yes I do 7% saline everyday. It helps with airway clearance and to get the sputum out. But there are times of the day, such as being at work, out in public, or driving in the car, I get a sudden tickle that won't go away. In times like this I need the castor oil. Since I've been on Arikayce, it's really increased my sputum... I went from 1 to 10 on a scale. Though the excess mucus/sputum is irritating, I look at it as a good thing. I'm getting the bacteria out of my lung.

Did you mean cod, liver oil? That is a totally different thing than castor oil.

Bonniesue, I have been treated for GERD for about 20 years. I have other gastrointestinal conditions that agravate GERD. I follow a very strict diet (no caffeine, chocolate, mint, carbonated drinks, fast foods...) My bed is elevated and I sleep on my left side. I eat very small meals and I don't eat or drink anything 3 hours before bed. My last meal is at 5:30 pm ( too early for me, specially in summer time). I also struggle with not drinking after 6:00 pm, I am always thirsty.
