Son with alcohol addiction
My son is currently in the hospital with severe pancreatitis due to alcohol. This is bad..one of the "worst cases" they have seen. Yet every time they talk to him about rehab he says not interested. He has tried AA...says it makes him want to drink...Wekiva in and out patient. An online program that say alcoholism isn't a disease just a matter of decision..nothing works. Anyone know of any other times of rehab? Maybe after this he won't pick up another drink...but seems unlikely to me unless he gets help. Which I do know he has to decide. Just looking for some help that might appeal to him. Like AA for gamers maybe.

Has anyone heard of a rehab that will take a person with tube and drain in? We are having trouble finding one...at least in network..
I’ve been sober since 2006. Sounds like your son doesn’t want to quit. At first I felt the same way. He probably can’t imagine how to handle life without booze. Alcohol is a strong drug that I couldn’t quit without help. I got sober at a rehab and continued going to AA. Good luck this is going to be an uphill fight
The biggest issue is he has drains in and gets IV AB three times a day. So we are having this gap before rehab which worries me. Ugh...hopefully he will choose wisely!
Just want to give an update..after 71 days in the hospital my son was discharged with drains and a pic line. Whew. He spent another 2 weeks at his dad’s then did go on to a residential program once the drains were removed. Time will tell but I am glad he is alive and made the decision to go to rehab. Thank you all for the support I found here.
@tiftdvm
Thanks for update, I am glad your son is on road to recovery.
Realizing these are older posts, I still want to jump in.
The alcoholics have to find their own bottom, as do those of us related to alcoholics.
We love them and often go down the tubes with them also by not taking care of ourselves, we get so wound up in their life - their recovery - that we don’t even realize we have lost our lives and ourselves and that our own thinking becomes confused and distorted. My happiness and peace of mind is not tied up so someone’s sobriety. Al-Anon Family Groups is for friends and family of alcoholics. I would focus so much on other people that I just ignore myself -
As with AA, try at least six different meetings before deciding if it is for you or not. There are still tons of meetings through zoom if you don’t want to seek out a meeting in person. Al-Anon’s website will also let you order literature and books - though in person those are available to you.
Watching someone hurt themselves with alcohol is heartbreaking - but learning how to detach and still love them is possible. I’m so sorry this is happening. Please take care of yourself.
My sister in law is in hospital in Florida very critical
They said her liver is gone and she drinks beer everyday before this ..
And there’s nothing they can do for her
Been in ICU for 9 days now on ventilator since yesterday
I don’t know if any hospitals out there Willing to help her with transplant ??
She’s 50 years old
Thank you
@michelle0517, I'm so sorry to hear about your sister-in-law. This must be very hard news for your family to hear.
Most transplant centers, including Mayo Clinic, require patients to be alcohol free prior to being placed on the transplant waiting list and prior to living donor surgery. Most patients are also required to attend alcohol treatment and AA. Once patients are able to complete these recommendations, they may be eligible for either deceased or living donor transplant.
How are you holding up?
Just taking it day by day trying to find some kind of help for my sister in law ..thank you
