1 year old pacemaker but now paceing 80%
Had my pacemaker for 1 year. Watchman for 9 months. Pacemaker installer said battery should last about 10-12 years. Last month told I have 5 years left as I am pacing 80%. Anyone know of a way to slow this down?

I don't see how. The device responds to need, or to demand, and yours seems to be above average. Personally, although a bit miffed that the demand is so high, would be thrilled that it's reliably doing its job and that I can expect to have to do some maintenance of it very six-8 years or so.
Thanks

I have had a ICD/Pacemaker since 2006. I am on my 3rd device.
A pacemaker battery will depend on how much the device was set and is pacing your heart. If you don't have a dual device (ICD and Pacemaker) this won't apply but battery life is also affected by ICD charging or shocks you receive. The pacemaker is always monitoring our heart. Your EP has set a pacing level y on what is best for you.
Mine is set at 70 BPM. That means my pacemaker will maintain my heart rate at minimum of 70 bpm. I am on medications that lowered my PR drastically to the 40s. Thus my pacemaker is constantly pacing my heart at 70 bpm.
Your pacemaker should be pacing your heart if it is set to bring your heart rate up from what it would normally be at all the time. The goal is for that to work 98% of the time. Mine is at 92% pacing because I have so many PVCs.
So find out what your resting heart rate was and what your pace clinic (EP) has your pacemaker set at. You maybe at 80% pacing as your heart rate may be high enough so that your pacing is NOT needed alls the time thus explains the 80% pacing. 80% pacing means pacemaker is pacing your heart 80% of the time.
My battery life (Boston Scientific) is 8-10 years because my pacemaker device is set to pace my heart 100% of the time if my sinus rymptm is below 70 bpm (which is would be in 40s).
