Prolia and Hair Loss

kfmgm, I lost a lot of hair after surgery and from Thyroid Disease a few years ago. Synthroid medication for Thyroid made my hair come out terribly. Stress can also cause hair loss. Can the doctor try you with another med that doesn't cause hair loss?

I like you had really thick hair. I lost handfuls of hair both times after having COVID. I thought I was going to go bald. It is coming back again from this last time of COVID. It just takes time.

I would go and see a Dermatologist and let them diagnose what kind of hair loss you have. Low B12 and other vitamin deficiencies also can cause hair loss.

I honestly could tell no difference with vitamins, shampoos. Minoxidil (Rogaine) made my scalp each terribly and so I couldn't use it. I realize most of us do not have the hair we had in our 20's, but, we sure would like to keep what we do have, right?

Try not to put extra stress on your hair. I don't know if you are male or female, but, I assume you are female. Don't wear your hair up too tight in a bun or ponytail as this puts a lot of stress on your hair. After shampooing, let your hair air dry if possible. Also, use a wide toothed comb gently before after shampooing and conditioning to get the tangles out.

After the 3d shot of Prolia, my hair started falling out in alarming handsful.I didn’t take any more shots and the loss slowed down but not before I lost more than 50% of my hair. Lucky for me, I used to have read thick hair.I went on Risedronate-once a week pill- but my hair continues to fall out but in much less quantityThis all started a year ago- July 2023.I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this and does their hair grow back?

Whoa, whiplash here. I had to go back two years to refresh my memory. My original comment had been on dental issues. Here's an update. I've now been on Prolia for almost 4 years. I've not experienced hair loss since chemo. My hair grew back thinner, but the variables here that might cause that include aging (I'll be 70 in October) and 4 1/2 years on AI's. I used to have fairly thick hair so thinner is only obvious to me.
Recently I experienced some serious jaw pain so I visited my dentist. After special x-rays she concluded that all was well. She told me the jaw muscle ages like the rest of our body. My oncologist told me that jaw pain with Prolia is not uncommon and doesn't have to mean bone damage. It later occurred to me that I'd been taking collagen supplements for my knees and had recently cut the dosage in half. After resuming the prior dosage, my jaw issues improved significantly. I will transition off Prolia in December with Zometa and will discontinue AI's at the end of the year. Prolia has worked for me, so fingers crossed that next year my hair thickens, and my muscles and joints stop giving me fits.

I called Amgen when I suspected Prolia caused my significant hair loss. They claimed that there were no reports of hair loss during clinical trials, but that they did receive complaints after product went to market.

Difficult to discern what percentage of people are affected.

I can still see more scalp than I’d like, but I cover it as best I can with a colored powder (like Topix). I have been taking Nutrafol and I think that has contributed to new hairs coming in, but how can one know for sure? I apply rosemary essential oil (mixed with a carrier oil like argon or jajoba) on the nights before I know I’ll be shampooing the next day.

I think my last Prolia was September 2022 and this is my hair now. Wimpy, but better.
