I experienced massive hair loss after the 3d shot.
They put me on Aur0-Risedronate 35 mg. once weekly. (tablet)
I stopped using it for about 5 weeks to see if my hair would quit falling out. But did not notice any difference.
The hair loss is much less now.
I am wondering if it will grow back?
I’ve been on Prolia for two years and noticed significant hair loss five days after my last injection. I’m now searching for a product to slow or stop the hair loss.
Let me know if you find anything.
I am taking Biotin. My hair loss has slowed but not quite entirely.
It has been a full year since my hair first fell out. At that time it came out by the handfull!
I quit the Prolia after the 3d shot. I had thought it might be the combination of that and a covid shot within a week of each other. But having read comments on here, I don't think so.
I went on a once a week pill - Risedronate 35mg.
My hair still falling out but very little in comparison.
I would like to know if anyone's hair has grown back?
Yes, my hair is still falling out and the strands of hair I do have, (which used to be thick and healthy), are now thin and limp. Having other issues as well with Prolia. I am a month overdue for my third shot and am strongly resisting taking it again. I know all of the consequences of not continuing with it but I don’t care. Side note: no one ever told me before I started that I couldn’t stop! I feel scammed by Prolia. Waiting for the next step my “new” doctor advises. This whole situation is horrible. I feel like i’m between a rock & a hard place. Best if luck to you!
I quit Prolia after the 3d shot. My hair fell out in massive amounts!
I am now on Risedronate 35 mg. tablet.
My pharmacist tells me that it comes in different strengths. I have to talk to my doctor about that.
My hair still coming out but just slightly in comparison. I am taking the vitamin, Biotin.

Me too! My hair started thinning on top but now is thinning all over. The prolia has increased my bone density 9% in my spine after 2 years so I am reluctant to go off of it yet. I am 69 and healthy otherwise. Prolia is the only change in the last 2 years and I have no family history of hair loss. I can’t find much in the literature about prolia and hair loss. In one study a couple of Asian women had hair loss but it grew back when they went off of it. 🤷♀️
I had my 3rd shot of prolia in April of 2024. About mid June, I noticed my hair starting to thin. Now six weeks later, it has progressed by coming out by the hands full. There is barely enough left to put a clip or ponytail around. I take Biotin along with other hair vitamins. Increased my iron intake to help raise my ferritin. My regenerative dr gave me a script for around 40 blood tests which included 25 tubes of blood. Not all the results are back yet but nothing appears to stick out to be a cause for hair loss. I am petrified it is the Prolia.
I had a phone call from my endocrinologist a couple days ago about my thyroid blood work, told her about my hair loss and she said there is nothing that can be done about it. I see her in September and assume it will not be a pleasant appt. I switched to her just a few months ago because she was recommended to me and my previous one moved out of the area. I assume I have to go in with a game plan to get off the prolia. I refuse to get another shot of it. Because I have very thin fine hair already, I could be bald by then.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Because I have researched hair loss so much, I am getting all kinds of ads for hair loss products. Do any of them work?
Sorry for going on and on and on ..... I am so depressed, worried, and scared!
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!
I am considering the Actonel (took it 10 years ago-without hair loss at the time). I am also on HRT which is monitored every 6 weeks by blood work by the regenerative doctor. So wondering if the Actonel and HRT will be enough to control the bone loss after quitting Prolia. Thought it could be monitored with bone markers (CTX and P1NP). I am scheduled for a DEXA in a couple weeks. I was on Forteo prior to Prolia.
Thanks again, You are all so helpful in this group!!!

Hello @danaso1989 and welcome to Mayo Connect. I appreciate you sharing your experience with Prolia. It must be gratifying to see a 9% increase in the bone density of your spine.
I'm wondering if you have had any other side effects other than the hair loss. Is Prolia the only medication you have used for osteoporosis?

I have had much the same experience as you. I refused to use Prolia after the 3d .shot.
I am now on Risedronate. I have no idea if it is doing anything.
I cannot get to see a specialist in the near future.
I am seriously thinking that we should collectively file a class action lawsuit.
Interested?
I am sorry you are experiencing the hair loss and stress over what to do next. Cindy
Thanks!
