I would think your dosage is dependent on how high your platelet count is. Maybe Dr is worried and wants to get count down quickly, and then put you on maintenance dosage. I take my HU at night with a few spoonfuls of yogurt or cottage cheese. Dr said to take at same time every day, and since I never get up at the same time, I figured my night-times are more consistent.
Since starting hydroxyurea approximately two years ago, I have experienced worse tinnitus. I have had tinnitus for a long time, but very mild. Has anyone else experienced bad tinnitus? I am wondering if it is the hydroxyurea that has caused this. Please respond if you’ve had this problem.
My doctor told me that some people experience hair loss and some do not. I am lucky as I have not had that, only itchiness, headache, fatigue and very seldom nausea……. Claire

El último exámen me dio 700.000. Y por eso me aumentaron la dosis.
Hace tiempo que las mantenía entre 500 y 600.000 tomando 2 x 500 x 7 días a la semana.
Oh dear that is high and taking the hydroxyuea, even with the side effects, in my opinion is better than what could happen without them. Keep in touch and I hope everything works out for you…….hugs

Good for you, taking this question to your hematologist.
For me, starting HU at a low dose was really helpful. I feel it allowed my system to adjust, saving me from any side effects.
Especially in the first year, most of us have had our dosage adjusted. That's how we find what works.
