Has anyone tried Umary Hialuronica Acidio from Mexico? WARNING

Posted by jixster @jixster, Feb 20 12:16pm

I bought a bottle of this UMARY Hialuronica Acidio from Amazon - I wanted something to help with my morning stiffness from PMR. I tried one pill mid- afternoon and the next morning I felt like new! No pain - no stiffness. BUT - after reading some negative reviews on Amazon I became aware of some possible issues, that because it works so well there must be an unlisted ingredient(s) - perhaps a NSAID OR A STEROID? One person mentioned after a couple months of using it started to mess up his liver enzymes. Since I am on 10mg of prednisone I decided to only take this supplement once every 4 days until I see my rheumatologist in April - I did not see any warning from the FDA for Umary - there are many more positive reviews than negative reviews on Amazon- I wish I could get it analyzed to be sure it’s safe but I don’t know where such can be done.

I’m starting to try our ingredients and some that I have tried at work so I noticed some of the ingredients, like nettle, turmeric, which are herbal ingredients that are supposed to be good for pain for different things.
The medicine seems to help for me. I can’t say that it’s taken everything away, but it helps.
But I would like to know if there is any unlisted ingredients that would be harmful. My husband has RA The medicine that he’s taken for it is destroying his liver so for him to take something that would do more damage to his liver would be a big deal.

Welcome @eeb, I think it's wise to know possible side effects of any supplements you are taking. I wasn't sure if you were referring to the Umary Hialuronica Acidio from Mexico being discussed. Did you see the note with the FDA warning at the bottom of the discussion description? - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/has-anyone-tried-umary-hialuronica-acidio-from-mexico/

I have located a US company that will do a complete content analysis of UMary for about $2,000. Perhaps we can set up an escrow account or some other way to get contributions from users of UMary to share the cost. Any ideas or suggestions you may have are welcome.

The warning in the discussion description may need to be updated from saying Umary may contain hidden ingredients that are potentially harmful, to spelling out that it does contain them, in line with the FDA's new warning this month.
"The Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase or use Umary, a product promoted and sold for pain on various websites... FDA laboratory analysis confirmed that Umary contains diclofenac and omeprazole, which are not listed on the product label..."
They then go on to list all the serious adverse effects that could be caused by taking the undeclared drugs, an NSAID and a proton pump inhibitor.

I really hope there isn’t something horrible in it. Admittedly wonder how it works so well. Day and night difference in my pain. At about 8-9 days of use I started getting stabbing sporadic pain in liver area. Stopped for 3 days. At day 2 it went away. Woke up so stiff and in pain on third day I took one. I may try to just take every 3-4 days to keep the pain tolerable or around high activity stuff with my work schedule where I have to be able to move around more that day. Idk. It’s so disappointing as I finally felt hopeful and like my old self after ten years of debilitating symptoms and being dismissed by doctors.

I have used it and the only side effect I had was shortness of breath. I found I could only take 1/2 every 3-4 days and it still worked well enough to keep most of my pain in check. My vestibular therapist takes it and said he had the ingredients checked out and the drugs not mentioned are prescribed by physicians many times for pain. I know there is no way I can take every day.Again I take every 3-4 days 1/2 pill.

Shortness of breath is not a minor symptom. Have you discussed the illegal medication with your ear therapist since the FDA warning not to take it?

I'm in my 60s and many of my friends are taking UMary. I was pleasantly surprised at the dramatic and quick results after taking just one pill. I've been taking UMary for several months now. Recently I had a scary thing happen. I had diarrhea before bed and when I went to clean myself (sorry . . . I know this is gross), I was shocked to see the toilet full of bright, fresh blood. It happened two more times the next morning. I went to the GI doctor and I'm waiting for a colonoscopy appointment. After reading this article, I'm putting two and two together. Some of my friends have read this FDA article but are taking their chances with UMary because of their distrust of anything government these days, especially after Covid and some of the disinformation that was going around.

I believe there are people who will continue to use UMary even with the FDA warning. I would like to see a full list of ingredients including excipients and the amount for each. At least these users could then work with their medical professionals to keep dosages within a managed safe range.
