Epstein Barr Nuclear AG AB IGG result of over 600

Posted by lsh @lsh, May 3, 2020

Hello, I am searching for information and also input because of my hideously high lab results for EBNA Nuclear AB IGG. My result was given as over 600. The range is less than 18 is negative. Over 22 is positive. To restate, my lab result is over 600.

I am 52. I did have mono at age 11. For at least four years I have complained on numerous times to my PCP of fatigue. We suspected thyroid but that has been treated and I still have suffered from bouts of fatigue, feeling like I was coming down with a bug, dizziness, etc for 3 or 4 days out of just about every month for the last eighteen months. I finally saw a naturopath who tested me for EBV.

I love my Naturopath, but I am wondering if I should be seeing a specialist because of this high lab result.
I am on a treatment plan of antiviral supplements, and immune supporting vitamins and supplements which she said will probably need to be taken for at least three months.

Has anyone else had numbers this high? I am having trouble finding much information on reactivated EBV.

Thank you!
Lisa

A testimony and an answer. The purpose of this is for anyone suffering from the impacts of Covid or Long Covid. Please forward if you know others which can benefit.

December 12, 2020 began my Covid journey. The virus attacked every part of my body. Over the next three and a half years, I had Covid and Long Covid twelve times, then a 13th. There was severe brain, heart, lung, gastrointestinal, neural (brain and nerves), and vascular impact. A secondary disease developed called Viral Reactive Arthritis (ReA) and began after December 2022 and reoccured twice more, the last time encompassing from February 2023 until a few weeks ago. Also, the impact on my vascular system produced three pulmonary embolisms in both my lungs, one deep vein clot 34 inches long (DVT), and five shallow vein clots (SVT). I had nerve twitches, shooting pains, was unable to talk, think, work, walk, stand, had lung issues constantly dropping my pulse oxygen to the low 80% range, ringing ears, issues with clarity in my eyes, peripheral neuropathy, pain like I have never experienced which lasted days and weeks and occured over fifteen months consecutively, my hair fell out, and many others symptoms occured over the three and a half years.

After the 11th infection, a client and friend, Michael, forwarded me a discussion of how nicotine healed long Covid. Thank you, Michael. I read the published papers on the subject all occurring in 2023 and 2024. The first paper working out the hypothesis of the nicotine impact and how the nicotine functions on human disease was published in 2002. I began a treatment in October of 2023. There was no impact. So, I began a dose-reponse test to find my dosage for my metabolism and body weight. I found it at 40 to 50 mg nicotine per day over the whole day (combination of patches, pouches, and gum). Within days, my Long Covid dissappeared. The 12th infection was terrible, and I also had flu A and bronchitis at the same time from December 14, 2023, to near January 2024. It took about six weeks to get over Long Covid with the nicotine treatment. I saw two neurologists from February to May 2024. Both stated I had severe impacts from the virus and were either their worst or in the group of their worst impacted patients. After the last visit with the clinical neurologist, I had an understanding come over me that something had to change, and the conclusion was nicotine and tobacco. No, not smoking. The plant use itself in smokeless form. There is a massive impact differrence from natural tobacco sourced nicotine and the salt extracted and synthetic forms.

I was born premature and in the first 12 years of my life had many diseases and sickness typical of a premature baby. I began working at age twelve. Having the exposure in agriculture and money in my pocket, I began dipping Skoal and Copenhagen. From that point on until I was 48, I was rarely if ever sick.

At age 48, a new health insurance company made me quit dipping snuff. Within half a year and from there on, I had many viruses, including flu, GI, and general cold viruses. Then Sars CoV-2 came.

On the day of the second neurology doctor visit, I purchased a can of Copenhagen pouches and mixed them in with 6 mg Zyn pouches and gum during the day.

Immediately, on the same day, I noticed allertness I had not had. In the days and week to come, my ReA flares never returned. I got off high dose prednisone and returned to 100% of my brain ability and duration to work mentally. The first time in almost four years. The last three weeks, no pain from ReA, no PEM, return to mental ability, and many aspects of pre-Covid 19.
I have to earn my physical strength and endurance back, but I am sure, as the Lord's promises and is faithful, I will recover these also.

I know what each reader is thinking, likely, based on almost all the doctors and other individual's reeponses. Nicotine is addictive and it and smoking cause cancer.

I am going to correct this with the Lord's Truth. God made all things, and they were good, Genesis 1. Man adulterates and destroys. God made the plant family Solanaceae. This family, the nightshade family, contains many alkaloids and phyto (plant) chemicals. All plants have many phytochemicals. God made them. These nicotine producing plants include tomato, potato, peppers, eggplant, and numerous herbs and spices. Of course, tobacco is in this plant family. Nicotine is a plant alkaloid. This alkaloid protects plants from insects, bacteria, viruses, and fungi. The higher the nicotine, the better the protection. The leaves and immature fruit have the highest concentrations based on research. Different plant species within this family have variable concentrations of nicotine. Green tomatoes, eggplant, and leaves of these and other species in this family produce larger amounts of nicotine.

In the past, tobacco was used for a tea aiding stomach and health, poultices for pain and prevention of infection, infrequently smoking before great sessions of thinking and debate. Tobacco, nicotine, what God made, man adulterated and contaminated.

Nicotine protects the plants. Resverotrol protects the plant. Capsaicin protects the plant. I can go on for a long time. The study and resolution of plant disease and nutrient impact on plant health are my daily work and my training in my Ph.D. in plant pathology and microbiology. I have watched these phytochems protect or fall short when deficient for 30 years.

The impact of natural nicotine from tobacco leaves and other phytochems made such a difference over synthetic or salt extracted nicotine is so stark, that my daughter and son in law, my doctor, those in my Bible study class, and clients immediatly recognized the difference in my physical nature and thinking ability. My clinical neurologist was "shocked" by the impact. Are you addicted to tomatoes, peppers, celery, and cauliflower (yes, these also produce low levels of nicotine)? Potatoes have low levels, but do you have an addiction?

No. Do you remember when coffee was bad? Coffee is from a plant in the bitter herb family. This family produces many of the plant extracts sold today of which protected me until God gave me the solution to my serious health issues. Phytochems that protect the plant protect the human. Your food is your medicine. God made it all, and it was good.

Please recognize, with all people, all people have a proper dosage rates. What is good for one person is not good for another. Some have low tolerance of nicotine, my wifez my daughter, my son. While others have high tolerance or no impact. If anyone starts this treatmentz they should start on nicotine gum, 1 mg dose ( cut 2 or 4 mg gum into appropriate volume).

Again, the purpose of this narrative is to help people suffering from Covid and Long Covid.

Respectfully, in Christ,

Justin

Hello all,

I'm new to this discussion group and after reading a few of the messages listed, many of the symptoms (sx) discussed are also associated with Chronic Lyme Disease (CLD) or Post Treatment Lyme Disease Syndrome (PTLDS).

These diseases are becoming recognized as a pandemic due to the CDC not taking the appropriate action to test if Lyme can be chronic by removing the marker that determines a chronic illness and only allowing an acute marker for the test. This is why most people have been suffering from either of these illnesses and the coinfections caused by it for up to 20 years, while being misdiagnosed with illnesses such as fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, and end up developing illness such as ulcerative colitis, dementia and activated EBV caused by untreated CLD or PTLDS. These illness may be reversed or lay dormant if you receive treatment (tx).

The lab tests used by westernized medicine rarely, if at all, determine if you have CLD or PTLSD. It only detects acute Lyme. I was tested 3x by the Western Blot and Elisa and never had a positive result. Once my ND ordered a test by an organization called Igenex, my results were positive for CLD (Borrelia Burgdorferi), Bartonella, Babesia and EBV which are all coinfections of CLD and cause sx that sound like many of the sx discussed in the messages.

EBV is a virus that stays dormant in our body. If our immune system is weakened then it can become activated. It's a coinfection of CLD and PTLSD and frequently activated if you have an either of these diseases. The questionnaire below can help determine if you have CLD or PTLSD. There is a questionnaire you can easily Google that can help you determine if you have Lyme called the Horowitz Questionnaire. I hope this information was helpful.

I'm sending you all positive, healing and peaceful energy.

Hello again,

I meant to share this in my last post. EBV can be treated by intravenously by high dose vitamin C packs. I would ask an ND about it. ND's are also more familiar with CLD or PTLDS than westernized docs. Try looking for a Lyme Literate ND or MD in your area. One of my Lyme docs is in CA and I live in OR. As long as see her in person once a year, she can continue to treat me via virtual visits. I'm unsure what the medical board guidelines are outside of the US, yet if you tested positive for Lyme and there aren't Lyme literate docs in your area, don't lose hope. My doc in CA has patients from all over Europe. I'm happy to provide her information to anyone who would like it.

Take care!

Hello Justin,
Thank you for taking the time to tell your story. I too have been suffering from long Covid since August 2021. I have Celiac disease, Grave’s disease and Chronic Epstein Barr Virus. The Covid virus triggered all 3. I actually had read about clean nicotine helping with long Covid too. So, I used a 7mg patch for 7 days. I definitely had more energy and my body did not crash (my crash is when I can’t get out of bed, head throbbing, nausea, exhaustion). I feel like I have the flu but 10 times worse.

However, 4 days after stopping the patch, my body crashed. So, I know I need to get back on it.

Which brand do use for the patch? I had read Rugby was the cleanest. I tried gum but my stomach was too weak from it. Can you tell me how you did it? What steps you used to increase the nicotine and how you knew it was high enough? My medical doctor is encouraging me to do this protocol but has no experience with it.

Thanks for your help.

Hello everyone,

I am a 57 year old female. I had mononucleosis from EBV when I was in high school, over 40 years ago. It was a severe case, but I was not hospitalized, back then they just had me sweat it out. I had a very high fever for several days and was put in our bathtub to lower my fever. Prior to Mono I had a photographic memory, Mono changed that and for the first time in my life I had to learn how to study. I still have memory issues to this day.

I have never had Covid, as I have been masking religiously, not dining indoors, and pretty much isolating for close to 4 years. (I have an autoimmune disease that causes me to have a hypercoagulable state - prone to blood clots). Plus I already believed my health issues stemmed from EBV and know that viruses can cause autoimmune and cancer, and I do not want to risk developing more health issues.

Right around perimenopause I started having issues. Bilateral joint pain, fatigue, weight gain, restless leg, hair loss, bilateral carpel tunnel like pain.... etc.

In 2018 I finally saw a rheumatologist. I tested negative for Lyme, lead, and mercury. My Vitamin D was low. I tested positive for autoantibodies (ANA). I then tested triple positive for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) with symptoms of undifferentiated connective tissue disease (UCTD is like a catch all diagnosis where I don't fulfill the criteria for any other autoimmune diseases.)

The Mayo Clinic started me on Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine and after 3 months I felt amazing. I continue to take Plaquenil and my autoimmune is in remission / is asymptomatic. Before Plaquenil I had difficulty climbing the stairs (weakness and pain), I had profound fatigue and just felt bad. Plaquenil has been a miracle for me.

I had very strong reactions to all 3 Moderna vaccines. My symptoms ran the gamut. I had a high heart rate, nausea, insomnia, body aches, fever, bizarre cartilage pains, jaw pain, thirst, muscle twitches and internal tremors. In 2021 I went to see an infectious disease doctor who ordered EBV, CMV, and HIV, Toxoplasma and Hepatitis testing. Everything was negative with the exception of one Lyme band, Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and EBV.

OF NOTE: The EBV range at Quest is >150, the EBV range at Labcorp is >600. Anyone else use two different labs?

My results in 2021 (Quest):

41 KD IGG Band (Lyme) - reactive (the infectious disease doctor said this was inconsequential).
CMV IGG >10 high
CMV IGM negative
CMV DNA QN PCR - negative
EBV Early Antigen D AB IGG >150 high
EBV DNA QN PCR - negative

Then in 2023 I had my EBV tested again (Quest). The results:
EBV Early Antigen D AB IGG >150 high

Then in 2024 I had my EBV tested again (Labcorp). The results:
EBV VCA IGM - negative
EBV VCA IGG >600 high
EBV Nuclear AG IGG >600 high

I was seeking answers on why the Moderna vaccines made me so ill. In 2021 I went to my rheumatologist at the Mayo Clinic who was at a loss and believes I may have had a retro virus reactivated or they affected my vagus nerve. My symptoms ultimately subsided. However, I did have a persistent lymph node in my right armpit after the second vaccine. Then another in my left armpit. Then after my third dose I had a lymph node appear in my groin. My intuition told me I had lymphoma. I went to see an oncologist who wanted me to wait another 6 months to see if the lymph nodes would subside. I had been told to catch cancer early in order to get the best chance of survival so I pushed my GP to order the biopsy.

I was diagnosed with follicular non Hodgkin's lymphoma and am on "Watch and Wait" as the cancer is currently less of a risk to me than the chemo or treatment would be.

All the while the high EBV titer has been nagging me. Is the EBV antibody level contributing to my cancer and autoimmune? WHY is my titer so high? Do I have a subclinical chronic EBV infection?

I hope some day we all get answers.

Hello, I just found this post and am having similar issues. Also the same age as original poster. I am seeking advice, because I was in grad school 8 years ago when the school mandated a MMR booster and I got sick about 6 weeks later with a mono-like reaction which unfortunately has never gone away. I have been to PCP, rheum, and latest endocrinology. Get monitored every 3 months. So my latest results have the exact same EB >600; as an aside prior to the MMR my rubeola abs were over 300 which was also the ceiling for the test, normal value was 30 or under. Told me to just get it anyway.

Additionally, I have positive ANA, 'weak positive' sjogrens/lupus/RA antibodies and some fairly significant nucleolar patterns, plus the >300 measles and >600 EB. My main issues are joint pain, fatigue and muscle weakness. I need to sleep over 12 hours per day and can barely hold down a part time job which feels like a full time job. At first I was hoping I'd get better but after 8 years of basically feeling extremely tired I'm very discouraged. I hope the lisa who posted in 2020 and all the respondents are doing well. best wishes to all.

I have almost identical symptoms as and test results right down to the fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed with that over 20 years ago although I’m sure I’ve had it a lot longer than that. I’m 68 years old and have other issues also. I refused Lyrica due to already being overweight.
The rheumatologist just said oh yeah you have Mono without any kind of explanation right at the end of visit. I was shocked and walked out without asking any questions. Positive Lupus levels but not enough to say I have lupus. It’s all so overwhelming at my age. I’m not a good sleeper so it’s really hard. My internal clock has been way off for years.
I do have an appointment with an infectious disease specialist so maybe he has some answers.

I know this is an old post but has anyone found any resolution?

I am 33 yr old woman. I had mono for 10 months in 2022. Then EBV flares. I was taking lysine, monolaurin, valtrex, ozone iv treatment and more.
In June I became jaundice and hospitalized twice. No doctors listened to me when I told them I had EBV. Liver biopsy came back as 'likely herbal supplement induced' but I felt brushed off because I told him I go to a functional medicine doctor and take supplements.

Today I got a second opinion from a GI doctor that ran a lot of labs related to liver, autoimmune, hepatitis, ebv. My active EBV came back very high. Said my liver failure was due to EBV Hepatitis.

Has anyone ever heard of this?

Fatigue for 3 or 4 days each month could be a "flare" of an autoimmune disease. I see you said that you had "positive lupus levels but not enough to to say you have lupus". That should be addressed. You may fall into the undifferentiated connective tissue disease diagnosis, for which there are treatments that may stop you from progressing to full on lupus. That's why the Mayo Clinic started me on plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine). When was the last time you revisted your fibromyalgia diagnosis? 20 years ago is a long time and testing / diagnosis criteria / and new autoimmune diseases have since emerged. I would suggest you get a second opinion from a lupus specialist.
