I have a neurological illness that has puzzled doctors.

I have a neurological illness that has puzzled doctors (here in Austin, TX.) because they can't identify what's wrong with me. Will The Mayo Clinic give me treatment for my neurological illness??

Me too.
Have had 6-7 neurologists over past 12 yrs with no help from any of them.
Even tried for an appt at Mayo Clinic and was told they’re not accepting any new neurological patients at this time.
Try back in a few months.
They’re not even accepting any patients for primary care at this time.
Good luck getting in.

Thank you for replying to my question, I'll just keep trying to get treatment at The Mayo Clinic and hopefully I'll be a patient there soon. I know that if any place can cure my neurological illness, it will be The Mayo Clinic. Also, I hope that soon you'll be successful in getting an admission to The Mayo Clinic.
Thanks again for your reply.

Hi @carniplant, I'm sorry to hear your doctors haven't been able to help you with your symptoms. If you would like to seek help from Mayo Clinic, you can contact one of the appointment offices. The contact information for Minnesota, Arizona and Florida can be found here http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63.

You can call one of the locations and request an appointment yourself but a referral might be helpful. Have you talked with your doctor to see if you can get a referral?

Different Mayo sites run differently. Apparently they can make independent business decisions. Try another. ie Florida Mayo only accepts patients with certain insurances whereas Minnesota Mayo has a less restrictive list of insurances.

I tried Mayo in Arizona, where I’ll be moving in several months.
That’s where I was told they weren’t taking any new Neuro patients.

When you arrive in Arizona, stop at Mayo and get assigned a Primary Care Provider. For older peoople, it definitely helps if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan to beef up your standard medicare. There may even be a specific clinic for people who live locally. In Rochester, it's the Baldwin Clinic. Get to know your Primary Care Provider = he/she is the gaekeeper for referrals to specialists. Baldwin even has its own staff of specialists in the same building. If you knock on the door asking for a neurologist right away, you will get nowhere. Learn and respect the referral system used by Mayo.

For those that are having difficulty getting an appointment at Mayo Clinic, another option might be the Mayo Clinic Care Network - https://www.mayoclinic.org/about-mayo-clinic/care-network.
