I had mine in January 2020, the surgery went very well, out of the hospital in 5 days back to work in 3 weeks. I first started working out slowly, trying not to exert my chest as it takes time for the sternum to heal. I was in full work outs about 5 months after surgery. 4 1/2 years later, life is normal, full workouts and activities, only need a yearly check up since I have a bicuspid aortic valve and at some point in the future it will have to be replaced. If you need any more info let me know.
Oh wow and so glad you survived the surgery ! How did they do your surgery ? How often will you have to have it replaced - Ive read after 5 years it gets on the decline . Thank you for all of your info . Glad you’re doing well .
Hi, open heart surgery (only way to get to the base of the aorta) they replaced that section of the aorta with a graft. There is no declining, this is for the rest of my life. As I have propensity to aneurysms (especially because of my BAV) they do need to check my whole aortic system every 2 to 5 years (MRIs) to check there are no new aneurysms. Not sure where you got that it declines after 5 years, I am 58 and retired now, working out everyday, I feel incredibly well.
