Post Evenity DEXA numbers

Posted by susanfalcon52 @susanfalcon52, Jun 7 5:48am

So, I have my results after 12 months on Evenity.
Lumbar spine went from-2.5 to -1.8.
Left hip went from-2.0 to -1.8.
For the right hip and right femoral neck,
there are no scores, presumably because they are now titanium.

@sunny65 it seems you might have conflicting PT needs: lean forward for bulging disc and stay straight for osteoporosis and fracture! I withdraw my post in some ways since I did not take into account the bulging disc!

It is very hard to find a PT who knows how to help us. I am trying a well-regarded pain management program soon, but even that I will approach with distrust! My previous PT was at least safe and only did massage!

People do well with Evenity and many have virtually no side effects.

Margaret Martin at melioguide.com is the best...she also has a book available online. She has a video class for those of us with fractures but it costs money and I haven't done it yet.

So sorry you are in pain!

Thank you for info on Margaret Martin. I am sure these are good exercises. Neurosurgeon I went today morning recommended new therapist. I been very cautious but willing to try. I had a long chat over phone with him today . He uses various techniques. Seems like familiar with osteoporosis and spine fractures. He said that he does massages. I think that at this point I’d do anything to get out of this misery. I really want my life back. It’s hard to believe that just short 3 month ago I didn’t have a back pain( old fractures were healed) and I was walking every day 4-5 miles. Not sure why suddenly this pain came from nowhere. At the beginning my pain doctor told me that it’s coming from bulging disc. Today I was told by neurosurgeon that pain mainly is related to my osteoporosis. I am not sure who to believe. Ready for Evenity, new therapy which ever works.

Thank you for your opinion @windyshores . Just wanted to give you an update. I just got full results from my visit to neurosurgeon today. He noticed on my MRI that I have an Annular tear and this is the cause of debilitating pain. ( no one else told me this yet ) I guess I just have to find right physical therapy as soon as I can.Maybe acupuncture can help. Surgery is not an option right now.

Wow @sunny65 you have done such a great job getting an answer for yourself- and avoiding harm. I truly apologize for responding with only the fracture in mind!

I looked it up and this article has info on treatment too. You have a really good neurosurgeon it seems and I hope you find a good PT too.

I just got a referral to a comprehensive pain management program that includes doctor, psychologist, PT, OT etc. I wonder if you can find a good program as well. Massage has helped me but it doesn't last and I am hoping to strengthen back muscles to help with all the fractures.

Good luck and again, so happy you pursued a thorough answer and are so good at taking care of yourself.

Thank you so much for the article. Not sure how I got this problem, but probably this is a combination of different events . Interesting about comprehensive pain management. Please let me know how it works. I appreciate all your input and opinions you been sharing with me. You are so resourceful . I just started reading Great Bones by Keith McCormick. Very interesting.

@pami

Were you ever on other osteoporosis medications before you started Evenity?

Yes. I was on Forteo for six months and Tymlos for six months. No side effects. Some gains.

Thank you! I have previously been on Reclast for 5 years and Prolia for 2 years. I am hoping I get some gains from Evenity. I have had 4 sets of shots.

@hopefullibrarian

Hi pami,
Before starting Evenity, I'd only had the one Prolia shot, and no other OP treatment.

@pami since Evenity is relatively new and using it to follow up Prolia even newer, your info will be extremely helpful to others! Hope you have excellent gains.

Thank you. I will post my results in March 2025 when I get my next Dexa Scan. I did feel that I possibly lost some gains from Prolia when I started Evenity. I had some back pain and was very careful for 2 months.
