Pseudomonas Sinus Infection
I have had recurring Pseudomonas Sinus Infections since summer 2023. I started getting these about 6 months after my sinus surgery in Dec 2022. I have been on and off antibiotics since summer 2023. I have taken Levaquin and Ciproflaxin. It seems that Levaquin works the best. I am also doing Tobramycin sinus rinses but as soon as I am off the meds, it comes back. My symptoms are green sinus drainage, a lot of it. I had a CT scan done a few days ago 2/17/24 and the results came back submucosal thickening of my sinuses. At this point, I need a different type of treatment because pills are not keeping the infection away. I am worried that this could spread to the brain? if it were to spread to the brain, would that show on my CT scan?
Can someone please share what helped you get rid of your Pseudomonas Sinus Infection ? it appears that Levaquin and Tobramycin rinses aren't working for me. I read online that some people have had to take IV course on antibiotics. I have a follow up with my ENT on 3/7/24 and will ask him about the IV meds as well. I also read online where some people have asked to be referred to an infectious disease specialist. Any success stories of treatment would be great. I have anxiety as well and I am just concerned this will spread to my brain??

Just a thought-I got a new patient appointment at Mayo Rochester’s pulmonary department only a couple weeks out due to a cancellation. They’d suggested I call Monday afternoons or Tues a m. Would Rochester work?
I’m sorry about your sinus issues. I have them and they can be miserable.
You mentioned that it is an expensive trip. Sometimes Service Club Volunteer organizations in a community will support those who need some assistance with health care travel expenses. Just thought I would mention it, if you haven’t yet enquired about it.
I wish you all the best with finding out more about what is causing your health issues and what treatments are available.
I went to OHSU in Portland Oregon.
They checked me over and started to do some treatments. But I could tell after a bunch of visits that they were starting to guess at treatments.
It was costing me a fortune!
So I had to quit going there.

I, too, have had pseudomonas sinus infection for 45 years. An infection specialist put me in the hospital for 12 days hooked up to I've. She said she couldn't get rid of it. That it was so resistant. It smells. I have bad breath. I've tried antibiotics and rinses. I thought by now it would be treatable. Do you have more info since your post?
@mp3542
should say hooked up to IV.
Your story is a mirror of mine and gives me goosebumps; I had a septoplasty in November 2024 otherwise healthy 67-year-old not immunocompromised and not allergic to a thing per my various test….except for a history of sinusitis that was resolved by taking a Z-Pak once a year. I was encouraged to have a septoplasty, I have a deviated septum and had a large bone spur in my nose as well since I was informed this should resolve my issues and as the doctor said eventually will run out of medicine for you
I have had five revisits of pseudomonas, since my surgery, including staph, other fungus and bacteria (never before heard of according to my doctors) I have taken ciprofloxacin twice , levofloxacin once, gentamycin compound twice tobramycin once. I maintain I was infected in the hospital having heavy pseudomonas less than two weeks after the procedure. Does that change anything NO, but I am mad
Yesterday the infectious disease. Doctor indicated that it is clear the pseudomonas has colonized, and therefore I will be subjected to oral antibiotics that make me sick and compound nasal rinses for the rest of my days on earth.
I don’t know what else to share other than I commiserate with you and I believe the issue will be intermittently ongoing for the duration
@toujours
Pari makes a system called SinuStar. It is a nebulizer system that you hold up to your nose to breath in and out. If you nebulize 7% saline it might help a little to keep the pseudo knocked back? Might not help but worth a try perhaps.

2 Reactions@toujours I also have pseudomonas in my sinuses and have had sinus surgery. I use the Neil Med bottle sinus rinse with their sinus salt twice a day to keep it under control. I need to do this pretty much forever. It works really well for me…
@irenea8 I use the SinuStar for Budesonide. I’ve wondered about trying it with 7% saline. Do you do this? If so, do you use the entire vial?
@susanp64
Good question Susan. Yes I have tried it. At first I used 3% saline for just 5 minutes (not using the entire vial). Then I switched to 7% saline again for just 5 minutes. I did it about a week but noticed no improvement of any kind so I stopped. I might try again at some point. And that does not mean it would not help someone else.
