bladder prolapse, rectal prolapse and uterine prolapse surgery

Posted by harper7745 @harper7745, May 9, 2023

Has anyone had surgery for bladder prolapse, rectal prolapse or uterine prolapse, or all of them. How was the outcome, recovery, etc.
Thank you. Louise Harper

I am away from home until the end of the month and am worried the prolapse will cause damage in some way. It’s hard to enjoy vacation with this. Wondering if I should go home.

I don't think it will cause any damage. My prolapse was actually hanging out for about 6 months before I had surgery. Enjoy your vacation, and take care of it as soon as you get home. What state do you live in?

My prolapse was hanging out for 6 months and didn't cause any damage. Just discomfort. I don't think you have to go home, but when you do, and you contact a doctor, make sure he or she is a gynecologist urologist. Good luck!

I have bladder prolapse and was fitted for a pessary ring yesterday. It has a knob on it. I now have urinary leakage. I was told that sometimes the pessary unmasks stress incontinence. I was so hoping the pesary would work. Is there no other option for me besides surgery or leakage?

There was no other option for me. I had the surgery June 8, and would do it again in a heartbeat. I did not want the pessary at all.

what doctors performed them, was it done at a good clinic, how did you choose the person

Had a Laproscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy, Bilateral Salpingectomies, Laprascopic Sacral Colpopexy, and Posterior Colporrhaphy. Surgery was 2 1/2 hours, 2 hours in recovery, then home. Had no complications. Home nurse came out next day to remove packing (through navel), 2nd day nurse came out to remove catheter. All went well. Minimal pain, good appetite, No bowel problems, urinating fine. Would recommend to anybody that is afraid (like I was). It's been 3 weeks now, and I didn't even feel like I had surgery after 3 days. Took pain med 3 nights to help me sleep, and just Tylenol ES, once a day. Louise Harper

I know this is an old post but wondering if you are still doing well? Also, who was your surgeon?

Jadin, are you considering surgery? Or did you already have surgery? I look forward to learning more.

Thank you! I’m going to see a urogyn at the end of September for an evaluation, so I’m not sure yet if I will need surgery. I just started pelvic floor PT so hopefully I can prevent things from progressing further at least. I’ve read a lot of comments here and there seems to be a mix of people doing quite well and people having new problems after surgery. I feel like I should be at Mayo because of their expertise but I doubt my insurance will cover it when there are a couple of urogyns here. I’m not usually afraid of surgery but this one terrified me because of its potential to make me incontinent and/or ruin my sex life! And maybe it won’t even last and I’ll have to do it again? I mean, I can’t believe we don’t have better options… But hey what else is new in women’s health.

@jadinmad, you can contact Mayo Clinic insurance to ask if your insurance is accepted. https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/billing-insurance/contact-us

I use a ring pessary with a flat plastic surface and four holes in the center. I didn't know they could come with a knob. Reading about the knob version, it is used to prevent urinary leakage.

Have you tried the basic ring pessary like I use? Maybe that would work better? The doctor shouldn't mind at all.
