Bottled Water

Posted by n4seth @n4seth, May 28, 2020

Are most of you drinking bottled water? If so, does any bottled water do? I am guessing you need to know what you are getting in the bottle. I am currently boiling my water at home for 10 minute, but if and when I ever get out again, I am guessing I will want to take bottled water with me. I am interested to know what other folks are doing. Thank you!

I am new to Mac and I read through the support group that it was good to get a Life straw Water pitcher. I am only drinking water from that now and then putting it in my reusable bottles to take with me.

I recently read a post from one of the mentor's regarding the bottled water and she said that a well known Dr. recommended Poland Spring water as the best bottled water.

The same doctor said that none of the bottled spring water they tested had significant levels of NTM.

Hello all water bottle users. Here is something I learned many years before MAC and Bronchiectasis. It was taught by my hiking club friends in Arizona, where desert fever can be an issue.
All reusable water bottles, pitchers, hydration packs and straws need to be scrubbed regularly (not neccesarily daily) with a brush, hot water and detergent then rinsed thoroughly to prevent biofilm from forming. Simply soaking or running them through the dishwasher is not enough. Biofilm is where mycobacteria and other pathogens hide and grow.
For LifeStraw, Steripen and other devices, follow the manufacturers directions.
My friends used to think it was silly until I showed them pink slime forming in the threads on a water bottle cover.

Yes, thank you. I have listened to his video and we have emailed each other. He has been very kind in his reply. I have been boiling all types of waters in hopes of doing right by myself.
The problem to me is not knowing the source of the water....where/what Spring they sourced the water from and how good or properly the producer handles it from Spring to customer. So, I prefer to boil all waters. So far it hasn't been that much trouble. So far!!!
THANKS for your post.

I have been filtering my water in about a gallon container and then sterlizing it in an Instant Pot. I have been doing this for about 2 years. I buy the 6 filters at the time from amazon. It is less expensive than all those gallons for water or individual water bottles and I am doing a little to heal the planet.

Is filtered water from the refrigerator ok? My husband changes the filter regularly. The water comes from our complexes own water system, not city water.

Yes, I have not been happy about buying all those plastic bottles of purified water (that I never bought before this BE journey) of Sam's Brand due "too much plastic" for all the various reasons. I switched to Aldi's gallon purified water and was/am still not happy about it. I will be changing that also. I am gradually changing many things as I read the posts on the Mayo Clinic Connect and further learn from all. This is some journey we all are put on once told "You have Bronchiectasis."

Sue,
Yes thanks for mentioning that.
True he did also inform me of his/their findings regarding Spring Water. As I said, I am probably being over cautious at this juncture, for now.
Thanks to you I have made sure to be buying and wearing those N95 masks this planting season...etc. Thanks.
Still trying to get into the habit of other things to do for myself. As I said to another, this is some journey we are put on once we have been told "You have Bronchiectasis."
Happy planting season to all us dig in the dirt lovers with hopes of successful, beautiful results that mother nature will allow.

A friend who does not have BE suggested and mentioned the Aquaala bottle. It apparently uses UV light.
Does anyone know if the Aquaala bottle method (UV light) of filtering water is known to be a good method verses the Life Straw products often mentioned on the blog?
Considering how one should apparently clean/disinfect reusable bottles for best practices (Thanks Sue) that small opening could be a problem in itself in trying to clean, scrub it...etc.
Any thoughts to consider, and as well, inform my well meaning friend of???
