Neuropathy pills: How to avoid scams?

@bigjohnscho

I am new to this forum although I have been suffering with peripheral neuropathy for 2 years (none diabetic). Like most sufferers I have searched endlessly to find supplements that provide some relief and a possible cure. My search has proved how impossible this quest is and so expensive due to misleading adverts and down right scams.What would be really helpful if members posted their experiences with supplements they’ve tried , which were useless/helpful or obvious scams. I am sure there must be some helpful supplements out there and we would all benefit if these were posted on this forum.

Scams??? I got taken for 10 grand because I didn't research the Doctor. Oh, yeah, he was sort of a doctor (I learned too late): a chiropracter.
Don't sign a contract.
PAy upfront?? It's a SCAM.
Did anyone mention amputation in your near future unless you did/bought/tried xyz?? Go see a podiatrist before you get into something new

I did all the wrong things, because I was desperate.
If you're desperate, you're gonna find yojurself with a low checking balance soon, but no cure. Like me.

@bruizersmom
I watched a video by a doctor (supposedly) and even if he was a legitimate doctor doesn't mean that he's not out to take advantage of you.
He was talking a lot about possible amputation which to me was a scare tactic praying on desperate people.
I have had neuropathy for 40 years or more. Lack of blood flow, gangrene, and possible amputation, and other potential complications have crossed my mind, but it's not something I worry about. I ignore all commercials & infomercials and the like. I have just delt with the pain and currently only numbness without any treatments. I don't have confidence they work. If they did I think there would be a flood of positive results instead of so many people asking how to relieve neuropathy symptoms.
Take care,
Jake

Hello, bigjohn, I have had SFN in the feet, legs, thighs, and beyond for 4 years, which they say is a side-effect of having ulcerative colitis for 30+ years (not sure I believe this, as no gastroenterologists seem to have heard of it). I am lucky in having only numbness, no pain or even tingling etc. but it feels unpleasant & affects my balance. I have tried various combinations of vitamins but no solid results. Recently saw a podiatrist for it and he put me on METANX, which he described as an algae-based, "beefed up B-12" (& has some other B's). It is expensive, but I'm trying it for 3 months to see if I get any results. I will report back here, if so. Just wanted to add one more possibility to the pile! Let's hope this is something that actually kicks in eventually. Keep hopeful... Cheers, Diane

@haj
A number of seizure medications have visual side effects, some have actually caused blindness. Probably most notable is Sabril. I took gabapentin too but it wasn't effective for my neuropathy or seizures. Exactly why gabapentin causes visual problems isn't fully known.
You might want to be checked out by an ophthalmologist just to set your mind at ease. I have taken anticonvulsants for nearly 60 years now.

My husband was hospitalized 158 days due to Covid. He has several lingering issues but the neuropathy in his hands and feet is the worst. We have tried every supplement recommended for neuropathy and none of them have helped.

What works and what are scams? How can one tell?
For example, is Nervo Vive, Nooro, etc really helpful or just other grand standing adds to lure you to spend $$$$? Has any one tried them? And have anything worked for you?

I give up, why aren’t criminal charges brought up against these scammers. Theft by deception is a crime. And that’s what these scammers are doing.

I think you’re referring to Sackett of Purdue Pharma.

I am so sorry to hear from you all about your problens and GO Syndrome (Growing Older!!!)

I sent in a detailed response regarding my experiences but not sure it got read or distributed??!!

I am an 80 year old Vietnam Veteran and have been suffering from PN for about 8 years now as it has gotten so much worse. I have tried about everything out there including 2 Ketamine treatments, ablation treatments, alll kinds of useless pills and supplements and nothing has helped much!!? I use a lot of Sombra Lotion and gives some temporary relief that I purchase through Amazon as they started raising the price when they got positive feedback!!

My PN has now spread from my feet up through my knees and all around my midsection and back down through my groin. Also arms are now numb with tingling, itchy pain that is all over my body and even now extending into my face eyes, ears and left side of face. I a recovering from a terrible case of Covid (worst flu I have ever had in my life) and wished God would call me up at time. My stong belief in God, the love of my life and BFF lovely wife and my fabulous and caring family I am now back and will start light exercies this week and walking with the Hike shoes.

Unfortunatly old age and disease seem to affect us all differently, but I keep praying to our Lord and Savior that something will be found soon to help at least curb some of the terrific pain. Maybe now that we have some good and carring leadership in this once wonderful country we will continue to immerge!!! I am also highly allergic to meds and opiates so nothing there. The stupid people at the ER VA here in Western Colorado even prescribed taking Predizone which is really bad stuff- knocked out my immune system and gave me double pneumonia back many years ago!!! The VA has really slipped around here again!! Semper Fi
