Cleaning of Aerobika

Posted by cynthia69 @cynthia69, Oct 15, 2023

Hi,

I am new to this. I got an Aerobika and a phillips baby bottle sterilizer.

If after first use I wash with dawn and rinse with distilled water, what do I put it on to air dry? Paper towels?

After second use of the day and I wash with dawn and rinse with distilled water, do I need to air dry or can I put it directly in bottle sterilizer? I have the drier feature. Can I store it in the bottle sterilizer until the next day ready for first use?

Thank you very much.

The Aerobika manual states that, in addition to daily soaking, the device should be disinfected weekly giving a few different options. The respiratory specialist at UNC was horrified that I was following the manufacture's instruction and firmly stressed that I sterilize the Aerobika after each use along with the PARI nebulizer. The easiest way for me is to boil them. I have a designated pot and I boil the devices after every use.
I'm hoping to get some microwave bags for when I travel. Can anyone recommend some brands?

Hi, I have 4 so I wash two a day and boil them for 10 minutes, Other recommendations are to increase boiling time by one minute for each 1000 feet above sea level.

Yes, I think it would be easier to have more than one device. Thanks for the suggestion.

Pop-up camper person here. Two Aerobikas and 2 neb cups, a couple gallons of distilled water and some Dawn. Wash and rinse after each use, sterilize on the gas hot plate every week. We are only usually without electric for a couple days at a time, but 2 burner have propane stove. Next week we pick up a camper with solar too. New to us - not sure how much power we'll actually have.

In trying to understand and fit everything in, in a day, I have not been using the Aerobika four times a day. I have only been using it twice, after the nebulizing session and then I do the Aerobika session.
I have been using and cleaning the AeroElipse and Aerobika after each nebulizing session and Aerobika session....meaning cleaning both after each use which is once in A.M., once P.M.
I want to change my routine to fit in the two other times to use an Aerobika.
I am unclear about cleaning the Aerobika after each use or at the end of the day if using it, the Aerobika, four times a day.
Questions:
a. Use one Aerobika by itself 4 times a day and clean it at the end of the day?
OR
b. Use a different Aerobika each time and clean it after each usage???
OR
c. Use the same Aerobika four times a day just change and have four mouthpieces, and clean the mouthpieces after each use and then the Aerobika at the end of the day??????
The entire Aerobika doesn't dry out fast enough for a second use on the same day for usage, so to me that would mean having four Aerobika's?????
I haven't seen specific instrustions regarding cleaning with using the Aerobika four times a day .. All I have read indicates clean it at the end of the day.
Again if one needs to clean it after each use of the Aerobika, for me, with placing it on a towels (I also cover it with towels especially since the pieces are wet) it doesn't fully dry out until the next day.
I could and would do that, have four Aerobika's if necessary, or if it truly is best to have four for the four times a day, and then clean each after each usage,,,,time consuming again.
Thoughts!!!!

I have two Aerobika. That way I can be sure it is perfectly dry by the time I use it again. I follow the manufacturers instructions of soaking it in alcohol once a week. Otherwise I soak after each use in soap and water (dye free/scent free dish soap recommended by NJH is Seventh Generation). Then rinse and dry on paper towels over night.

Do you breathe in through it? I was told I didn’t have to do that. So I just wash it in mild soap water soak 25 minutes and rinse every evening and boil it on Sundays.

No I do not breath in, just out. I try to soak mine twice a week in alcohol and wash in soap and water daily. I should boil them once a week perhaps instead of one of the alcohol soaks.

A baby bottle sterilizer has changed my life in terms of sterilizing. It's so easy. It heats for 8+ minutes over 212F and then dries the stuff. After soaking the aerobika and nebulizer in hot soapy tap water and rinsing, I pop it in the sterilizer. For the sterilizer I use distilled water so I do not get mineral buildup. I have two aerobikas and two nebulizers so both are used once and then sterilized at the end of the day.

Thanks! I know on the Aerobika brochure it says to breathe in through it. I just wondered what other people do.

Agree on the baby bottle sterilizer! So much easier. Mine will steam for a good 14 minutes and run a dry cycle.

I was told to breathe in thru my nose, hold for count of 3 and breathe out thru the device.
