i have essential tremors. actually, 6 family members of mine to a degree have it. two of them have died. so that leaves four of us. an older sister has it. hers were so bad she opted for the Deep Brain Stimulator? if i'm correct on the name. she had the surgery on the left side of the brain to correct her shaking right hand. it's helped her tremendously. but she has not done it for her left side YET. to look at her, there is a huge difference.
now as for me. i'm basically the same as her before her surgery. but i can feel my whole body shaking and rocking as i sit. my head nods. to type this i use my left index finger. that's it. that's the only one i can control the best for typing. i've adjusted to it. i've learned to type faster with it. of course a lot of typos'. but i correct them before i post my comments. so you can adjust and overcome it if you put your mind to it. also, i'm still debating the DBS. i'm not to thrilled about someone drilling into my head. but no rush yet. thanks for reading. d

Has your Dr. prescribed “Primidone” ? It has some moderate benefits.

The severity of the shaking(Essential Tremor), is due to how active you are. Right now my shaking is in my hands. Is did get so bad one night that my speech was affected.

I’ve was diagnosed with essential tremors about 5yrs ago and they prescribed primidone and Xanax. I also received Botox injections in my neck every 3 months to control my head movements. Last year I was approved for DBS surgery but it has been postponed indefinitely due to a lung cancer diagnosis. My meds have been changed to topiramate & clonazepam as I undergo cancer treatment. The shaking in my arms and hands is making everyday functions quite difficult. The tremors are not constant but are worse when active and at night.

Dave, my best friend had botox injections in muscles of the forearm, which completely relieved her hand tremors. She saw a neurologist who would find the muscle causing the tremor using a machine called a rehapiano. It would last usually for four months. You are really in the middle of it. Better days ahead.
