Any suggestion for a brace for lower back pain?

Just making bed I need to sit down before going to other making other side. Washing dishes and kitchen chores is very painful. Please offer suggestions. Thank You.

Agree with Dmiles,BERK and Leigh. I wore a custom brace for a few days after a major spinal surgery. The surgeon told me to work on my core and leg strength. He didn't want me to wear the brace after the the spinal fusions were stable.

Usually I do the yoga cat/cow/child/cobra moves plus the piriformis syndrome moves I learned in PT. Dr Jo on you tube is very similar to PT. https://www.youtube.com/watch However, first, you should get images of your back and then a referral to a PT with osteopathic/hypermobility expertise. The lower back issues included (for me) tight hamstrings, tight hip flexors and also tightness of that large nerve that runs from your tush cheeks down your leg. I do find the stretches, cold pack/microwaveable heat, and topical things like biofreeze, 4% lidocaine patches and quality CBD ointment on the main area of the pain helps along the way. At the sink I stand with my legs at shoulder width and try to make sure I am tucking in my tummy and standing straight. As we age, all of these things need periodic maintenance to keep up your strength. Splints will not be the whole story.

It's to keep everything together so it doesn't burn so much.

I just use one with velcro and pull it tight. Seems to do the job.

While a brace may be the solution for some, for me occasional back pain is a reminder that my trunk muscles are not getting enough workout. So far (80 y.o. ) it has spared me any pain by just introducing a total ten min tricks like planks an bridge and leg lifts i all possible variations. Be your Own Therapist! This is what Mayo site has to suggest, "poor posture and lack of regular exercise. Frankly braces make the body More dependent on meds and devices. Let it be the the very LAST resort is my mantra.

Braces aren’t typically prescribed unless post surgical procedure and in circumstances, but routinely for achy backs its movement you need. Just my 2 cents from over 30 years of suffering with chronic back pain. Better still see a physical therapist for an evaluation and they can tell you what’s wrong. Potential even without first having xrays.

I've had this for many years. One helpful thing is not to stand, sit, walk slowly, for long periods. Stop these things: lifting, push and pulling jobs that you know are too much. Then stand, sit and walk straight with you intentionally sucking in your stomach. It helps the core muscles get stronger. I got it from my doctor. If I do as I should, I feel so much better, then I get lazy and pay the price. I do have this belt thing that you can pump up to help separate the back bone. I can pump it until I feel my separation giving some relief. It is bulky. Doctor prescribed it. Medicare covered it.

My suggestion is to make sure you’ve seen an orthopedic surgeon that will take a simple x-ray and tell you if you can use a brace or if you need to deal with Spine compression. After middle age your core muscles become weak and if you don’t incorporate regular exercise, like mentioned above simple yoga, or tai chi you can get from YouTube videos you might need to attend to your Spine in a surgical way. It takes a very long time to get where you finally need to go, so I recommend not procrastinating seeing a doctor. Insurance companies require a process be undertaken, which can take a long time in itself to qualify for an eventual surgery if that is needed. You’ll also have to put up with some crappy doctors most likely along the way. If you are otherwise ambitious, responsible, and driven person then maybe you need to see an orthopedic spine surgeon. If you have become laid-back and not motivated to be active after middle-age then you might need simply to exercise and Inc an exercise routine. I hope that helps.
