Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation

Hello! I'm curious if anyone has experience with the Inspire Upper Airway Stimulation treatment (inspiresleep.com) I do not tolerate the CPAP and am feeling more hopeful about this alternative than from a dental device. So far I've read the website and watched their videos but it would be nice to hear about the experience from someone who's not connected to the company. I've gotten to this point because I've had two different CPAP's and countless masks. Nothing works. I simply cannot sleep using a CPAP. I have an appointment with a new sleep doctor (my former doctor retired) but cannot get in until November.

Thanks in advance!
JJ

I was tagged for inspire and refused. I am not overweight or severe so I should have never been picked...Multiple implants involved and implants don't have a very good safety record. Please read up very carefully before committing to this...

I looked into Inspire as I am CPAP user. I thought how wonderful not to wear a mask and use a machine to sleep. I saw a ENT doctor who advised me that the cost of Inspire is $25,000.00. That includes equipment and cost of procedure to implant the sensor on the back of your tongue. Sounds great but too expensive for me!

Yes we’re out here. My husband just got Inspire implanted amour 2 months ago and it’s great. He was on the CPAP for 20 years and it was touring him. Inspire has been life saving for him and not to have to carry all that stuff around was awful.

I have just bought a dental device for $3,000. Medicare can cover some of it if you answer their questions and meet their criteria but I couldn't get to the required number without lying about my symptoms. I can't tell you any more about it. I just got measured today. I was told it was a Panthera device. When I get it in May, I will add a followup. It sounds like the bottom jaw is more impacted than I understood. Sounds like there are exercises to do. I will learn alot more in May.

Oh, I am one of those who has not done well with my cpap. I hate it. Also, I am sensitive to silicone so the nose mask is a problem for my skin. I just learned they have finally designed one with some fabric so I am checking into that too.

I am going to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix and hope to learn more about the Inspire and the procedure. Sounds like the dental device is not perfect either, and I won't do the CPap.

I currently have the Inspire sleep device had it implanted 3 years ago and have been doing well until several months ago. I too had the Cpap, dental device and double jaw surgery and nothing worked for me so I tried Inspire. I am a senior on Medicare and qualified for it to be implanted and it was covered by my insurance and my medicare advantage plan. I had zero cost personally for it all covered by my insurance. I had it implanted in Northern California in 2020 and received great support and help for my device while I lived there. I am currently living in Southern California and having great difficulty with my device and have found no support from doctors and especially Inspire company itself. There are many doctors out there now implanting the devices but very few who are trained to service these devices once they are implanted. I do believe this device has saved my life but it is very important to have continued support by Inspire for their devices moving forward. I am currently trying to see a sleep doctor for my issues if they are related to the device or something else. I am very frustrated with the Inspire company and lack of any patient support to fix these devices and their customer support is deplorable.

I am still for the Inspire device but would strongly advise making sure the doctor is trained and has done multiple successful surgeries implanted this device to do it without any problems. Please get information on a good support system for after the procedure as it takes about 6 months to get it adjusted properly to work for you and you feel comfortable with it. You will need it adjusted multiple times to dial it in properly so you need to be patient with the process. I would not recommend getting this device until you are fully aware of all the issues and make sure you have doctors and support lined up before and after the procedure and monitoring afterwards. Inspire needs more doctors trained on maintenance of these devices before I would give Inspire a more positive rating.

I had a consultation scheduled with the Mayo Sleep folks in Phoenix but had to reschedule, but I am pretty sure I qualified. But with the intense heat in PHX, I will wait for cool weather if it ever comes!
