Length of Time Between Referral and Visit
We live in a small town in Northeast Michigan. They do good work here in the medical community, but things move slowly and the specialist's we need aren't here.
My husband's been ill for months and seems weaker by the day. He's had many procedures, biopsies, tests and scans. His labs are off, he's positive for a histoplasmosis infection and his biopsy is suspicious for lymphoma.
I'm beginning to feel desperate. We see his local pulmonolgist tomorrow to learn what all of the biopsies indicate and hopefully get a referral.
I'm wondering how long it normally is before he can be seen after his referral.
Thank you.

So glad you have appointments.
There are many hotels, most hotel chains have locations. Another suggestion, some have a Mayo patient rate, so may want to call hotel directly for rates / reservations.
You may want to contact Mayo Concierge services for assistance, they can provide recommendations.

Few additional things to think about:
- Most downtown location are within walking distance or connected to Mayo through underground subway (walking).
-Most hotels not downtown offer shuttle service so do not have to hassle with parking downtown. There are parking ramps if do want to drive car to appointments.
- Some hotels have kitchenettes.

Do you have any specific hotel requirements?
@jackie84, as @roch recommends, I good place to start is contacting Concierge Services at Mayo Clinic. @cheyennepeterson can make recommendations specific to your mobility and transportation needs and budget.

Hello @jackie84. We have many options for lodging in Rochester. At Concierge Services (507.538.8438), we can help filter options down to meet what needs you may have. Many times, patients like to be within the downtown area, where most appointments are for first time visitors, and are within 3 blocks of the clinic buildings. Some of those hotels will have walkways that connect them to the Clinic. Most of our hotels have shuttles that can help get you to the main doors of the Clinic and discounts for Mayo patients. I will leave a list of those downtown options for you below, but know we have something that can fit most needs. We also have Patient Travel Services that can help arrange travel, transportation, and hotel bookings for patients. They can be reached at 866.551.3392.

The Kahler Grand Hotel is right across the street from the Gonda and Mayo Buildings (25 footsteps). They are also connected via subway. The Kahler offers a Mayo Clinic patient rate and is flexible should you need to extend your stay.
Set your criteria - I chose close to St Mary (we could see the entrance from the hotel entrance), free parking and breakfast included. My husband was comfortable and found the location convenient. Some hotels give a small discount to Mayo patients.
The question was time between referral and appointment. I was referred in February 2022 and had my first contact within 2 weeks. My cardiologist sent all of my reports and there was much email and patient portal activity within a month. First phone appointment was in May and I was told I would be contacted very soon to set up a surgery date. Someone dropped the ball and it was 2 weeks (after I contacted them through patient portal), before the next step happened. I was scheduled for July 21 with 2 days of tests and interviews beforehand.
This may not be any comfort, but I have a very complicated case with numerous health conditions. I understand, in some ways, what he’s going through. When something is an emergency, they look at it sooner and try to fix it faster. Even if I’m feeling really terrible, if the doctor doesn’t think I need immediate attention, it’s good news. It is frustrating to feel like you would have been better sooner if it had been solved sooner. But sometimes I’m grateful to be stable, even though my condition fluctuates and I sometimes feel just awful.
