Medicare and Mayo Clinic: What does Medicare cover?

Posted by clutch @clutch, May 3, 2021

I recently heard that the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic does not accept Medicare. Can any members who have attended the Florida Clinic verify this? Many thanks!

I have my initial evaluation coming up and would like to know if Medicare covers all or portions of the visit and subsequent diagnostics.

Yes, Mayo takes Medicare, however you have to check with Medicare as they do not approve everything. As was mentioned by the moderator, call the billing office to see if things are covered.
So sorry.

In addition to "Does Mayo take Medicare?" it is important to look at any supplemental or advantage plan you have.

I have Medicare with a supplemental plan with Blue Cross, I see providers at Mayo, but not every test is covered. With my supplemental plan, if Medicare does not cover, my supplemental plan does pay. But every plan is different.

Medicare does not cover 100 % of costs, so you need to understand if your supplemental or advantage plan has Mayo is in network, and what is covered.

I suggest calling your supplemental or advantage insurance company and asking them questions about coverage.

Occasionally when I check in for a blood test, Mayo will ask me to sign a form that states if Medicare / insurance does not cover, I am responsible.

My medicare is covering mine, with no copay. I used Inviate - if you have to pay, it's $250 but Mayo should be doing it for you.

I don’t understand what Inviate is ….could you explain further ?

I was at the Mayo twice in 2019 and also had Medicare and a supplement . They paid almost the entire bills with the exception of a particular blood test which wasn't very much .

No . I’m not aware of anything that is not covered . I know I have to contact my insurance providers but I honestly think I’m just putting it off bc I hate calling so much !!!! I think I have been made numb by my 10-year experience in this merry - go -round we call healthcare . It’s just the red tape I get so tired of dealing with . However I do feel that this experience will be worth it . Thank you - I will check this info you sent .

I'M 82 YEARS OLD AND BEFORE i CAN GET A QUESTION ANSERWED W/ALL THIS PASSWORD/USER-NAMES, ECT DONE, i WILL SURE BE "DEAD" IN FRONT OF MY COMPUTER.
You NEED A SYSTEM WHEREBY I CAN JUST CALL SOMEONE AND GET ANSWERS " Pronto". I confront this problem on every site I try to go too. Older men and women need more consideration and Help. I'm an old timer that actually has "calluses on his hands, unheard of in the hi-teck day we live in.

Thanks for hearing me out Art Andreis.
