Stage 3 Kidney Disease and Diet: What can I eat?
It seems there is very little you can eat that is healthy for the Kidneys. The web site Davida has plenty of food on it but contradicts what other sources say. Anyone know anything for breakfast, lunch and dinner that does not have any sugar or flour bodies the obvious boring or bland foods good for Kidneys and I’m allergic to sugar of any kind of sweetener and flour. Thank you.

Hi, I'm new to this forum. If you are still active here, can you tell me which Chinese herbs you have used? A friend of mine has used them and her CKD Stage 3 is gone. I'm leary about using them. I'm sure none of my doctors would recommend them, but I would be open to trying them. Thank you!
@jenc70 I spent a year seeing an acupuncturist weekly. This was before I learned about Cystatin C, the best lab measurement for CKD. My creatinine level eGFR would go up and I felt good about that. The acupuncturist who actually had a PhD from a well known US medical school suggested herbs with my treatment for my CKD. I would be remissed if I gave you the name because my nephrologist and dietitian said no to Chinese herbs. If you are still serious about herbs against medical advice, then just call a well qualified accupuncturist. It may be a dice game though with Stage 3 eGFR Cystatin C. I listed to my doc's advice and never tried it with no regrets today. Incidentally, the accupuncturist told me she also had some cures as well, however, it was acute CKD and not chronic which is a different ballga.e all together.
NA is sodium.
Are yo level 3A or3B? My doc says something else will kill me. I am 3A
Read Lee Hull’s book. Amazon has it. He is not a doc but just might be trying?
Hi, Thank you for the info. I started out with Acute kidney disease 7 months ago with a GFR 0f 5. Was most likely due to an illness I had for 2 months, fever, loss of appetite and nausea. (Later determined that was due to a blood clot in my lower leg). Once I was given Heparin intraveneously for 9 days in the hospital, my kidney stats started rising. It's taken 7 months to rise from GFR of 5 to 64 just this week. All of my other stats on the BMP blood panel are finally in the normal range this week as well. (I'm very grateful!) I guess I am now considered in the Chronic kidney disease stage. After reading Lee Hull's books, stopping kidney disease, I've decided not to try the Chinese Herbs. His books are very informative. I'll work on my diet (limiting meat) and try to follow his recipes and food recommendations to see if I can improve my kidneys even more. Thank you again for your reply.
kidney disease stage 3a diet - Wha can/can’t eat
@fcampo1957, I want to weclome you to Connect, and I commend you for looking for informtion about how you can learn to maintain a healthy diet for your kidney health.
I am probably an unlikely person to respond because I experienced acute (sudden) kidney failure and skipped the stages. I also had to be on dialysis until my transplant for a liver and kidney, and so everything that I drank or ingested was under the direction of a specialized nutritionist. However, be assured that I can understand your confusion and concern. And so I am sharing the following information:
The National Kidney Foundation has a website that will provide you with reliable/accurate information about our kidneys health, kidney disease and risk factors. If you scroll to the bottom half of the page, you will find - Diet and Nutrition. I like this site because it gives you ideas for adjusting your own favorite recipes.

How long have you known that you were Stage 3? Do you like to do your own cooking?
Where can I find recipes that you've posted?
I'm very interested in them, but cannot seem to locate.
Thanks!
Rosemary or Ginger have links, sorry I don't have them any more. If they can't find them let me know and maybe I can email you the document if I can find it. But please know some of the nutritional values have shanged so before using one of my recipes double check the nutritional values on labels and/or the USDA website.
