Hormone Replacement starting at 75yrs old
Doing reach, I have decided to try HRT with testosterone, very low dose. I’m in pretty good health, but was diagnosed with Polymyalgia Rhuematica 2yrs ago. I’m Just trying to make a better life with what yrs I have left. There are so many positive messages out there, and yes I’m on the older side. I have 6 daughters and we have all been doing a lot of reading on this subject. Is there anyone else trying HRT at an older age?

75 yrs . I have 6 daughters and I’m trying to be proactive. I was scared to death when I hit menopause and was on HRT for about a year and then the reports about how bad HRT was, I stopped cold turkey. My daughters started doing research since they are entering menopause and peri-menopause, they said mom oh my goodness you have missed out. Long story, but I’m excited to see what is a head for me. I’m about quality of life now. I should mention that a little over two years ago I was diagnose with polymyalsia Rheumatic I’m on prednisone 6mg hopefully I can get off of them soon.
I have used these twice a week for 20 or more years. If it works, why not?

May I ask have you had breast cancer. Asking because I just had surgery and in October when I found out I had breast cancer my doctor took me off my HRT which I had been on for 10 years and it was a very low dose it was an estrogel just one pump every other day and prometrium 100 mg once a day at night since I've been off of it my energy is in the toilet I feel like my mood swing up and down I don't feel myself I'm just so frustrated and I know because I'm in the middle of breast cancer they won't let me take anything although my oncologist did prescribe vagifem which I am so thankful for

1 ReactionIt was my understanding that vaginal cream Estradiol is not considered HRT. Perhaps, someone who knows will chime in.

Don't you think as far as menopause goes doctors do a disservice to women there are so many things that are out there to help with symptoms do you know what my GP said to me when he took me off my HRT and I said so what am I supposed to do now and he said suffer. He no longer is my GP I actually reported him to the Ontario medical Physicians Association. That wasn't the only incident.

2 ReactionsI’m not sure what to make of it. It’s beyond outrageous. It seems even female gynecologists aren’t equipped to inform women. Why are there no public services announcements? I’ve never seen any pamphlets or documentaries about it. What is taught in med school? I’m fortunate I haven’t suffered with common menopause symptoms, but I could have hidden damage that will present itself at any time. I should have known my options and been able to make that choice. I had to do my own research and find female urologists on you tube to get the information. Ugh…..

Yes it appears you have to be your own advocate in this day and time I am yet to meet my new female general practitioner which will be in April and I'm hoping for good things I always had a female physician my doctor was with me for 35 years when she retired she passed me on to another female physician but she left after 4 years so then I was stuck with this male doctor hopefully my new female physician is a good one
Good luck with your new provider. I had seen female gynecologists, female primary providers, female endocrinologists on a regular basis for years…..ugh…no one ever mentioned HRT.
