Controlling Tinnitus: What works for you?
Hello: Has anyone on this site had any luck with controlling tinnitus? I see certain things advertised but always sceptical. Any thoughts/ideas?

This link came to me today via a Facebook page on cochlear implants from Medical News Today. Researchers are working to find ways to eliminate or minimize tinnitus. Some recommendations/procedures work for some people but not all. I admire people who are willing to be test subjects in the research. The link leads to quite a bit of information on tinnitus.

I am going to try taurine for my horrible tinnitus
Is 3gm a good place to start?
@sherrick01821
I personally wouldn’t take more than 3 grams daily.
How you tolerate it and what other supplements or medications you take have to be taken into consideration. We have to make our own guidelines on this. Just get a good brand. I used taurine from Pure Encapsulations and, from what I read in all the literature, I had a choice to use 2 or 3 grams safely and chose 2. I think it’s worth a shot.

I'm going to try 2gm.
I read on the Internet, (and the internet never lies) that tests taking 3gm a day showed no long-term effects. I suppose that could vary from individual to individual. Me? I'm daring, I take 2gm twice a day on an empty stomach with a tall glass of water.
When I started @ 3gm/day I did it until I ran out. That was long ago, so I'm not sure, probably 3 months or so. The tinnitus reduction was so gradual that I didn't realize it, until I stopped. Then it ramped back up in a few days, so I started again.
I've been taking them a long time now, and I feel that my tinnitus is about 95% better. I have a lot of quiet days, most days are just an easy to ignore light hiss, and the worst days are somewhere between a hiss and a soft, high-pitched tone. That's about what my best days used to be.
Of course, that's just me. I have now idea how safe or effective it would be on someone else.
how long did you take the taurine before you noticed a difference?
Well, I was taking melatonin at the same time as I was taking the 1,000 mg of taurine, but it was just a few days, like 3-5 days before I began noticing the reduction in tinnitus unless it occurred to me to think about it. I still have it, but it is greatly reduced in volume and I rarely notice it is going on in the background of my hearing. I take a handful of supplements each day, so you should also try to add in after a while both Magnesium Glycinate and Oxide along with Zinc, which are vital minerals for nerve and auditory system support. You should experiment lightly with these additional supplements, to find out if they are synergistic with each other, as one or more may not be beneficial with tinnitus. I've had three primary care physicians who I've asked for help with tinnitus, and none could suggest one solitary supplement to try. That's strange to me since they have so many medical reference books at their fingertips. Remember, no hair drying without using good ear plugs, use ear plugs when doing any high noise thing, like listening to heavy music.
