Clostridium difficile (Cdiff) and worried about weight loss

Posted by 5chances @5chances, Nov 25, 2020

I have cdiff and just finished 10 days of vancomycin. I’m down to 99lbs. I’m feeling better but very worried about the weight. Suggestions? What about starting back on vitamins?

I e had C-diff. Twice within 2 weeks and hospitalized both times. I’m still on Vanco every other day. I’m worried that I have lost weight and am u dear 100 lbs now. I am having a difficult time gaining weight even though I’m eating beyond full and drinking boost. Is that normal?

Sorry to hear about your C Diff it is an awful thing but hang in there you will pass this and you will put it behind you. I too bad C Diff in 2020 and had a recurrence and took me more than a year to start putting the weight on despite what I ate I couldn’t gain the weight. Please ask away if you have questions. Hope all goes well for you.

@mhi and others on C diff.. I too got C Diff when given strong anti-biotics.. only lost about 10 pounds.. but probiotics prescribed OTC type.. worked for me .. now each time I get an anti-biotic they write in the probiotic to go with it ... It works for me.. and every week or so I have to refresh the probiotic as I cannot tolerate the yogurt ... except soy yogurt.. Ken

Female, Age 65. I am experiencing weight loss as well after having had the diarrhea part of C Diff for maybe 1-2 weeks then turned to a soft stool for approx three weeks. So, I am now two months out and still experiencing the stomach spasms and back spasms as well and still not feeling well. I have to say I went to a new Dr. when this was occurring and had the stool tested. The Dr gave me the results and then said she wasn’t going to give me antibiotics because it isn’t in the toxic range?! I have lost a considerable amount of weight through this ordeal, I realize I am eating differently, cutting out sugars etc. and of course afraid to eat some foods I was used to because of stomach bloat and upset. Ugh😢 I am wondering how you made out having gone through this terrible ordeal as well? Sincerely, Cheryl W

Omg 😭🙏🏽 I feel so alone!

I had my first c diff may 2023 then had recurrent C diff episodes about 3-4 times untill just few days ago I’m still c diff positive but on Jan 20th 2024 I finally got urgent FMT SURGERY (FECAL MICROBIOME TRANSPLANTATION)

You won’t believe it but I’ve been suffering for 4 months in this last C diff episode, im still positive as of Jan 20th, but I have been constipated since November despite having c diff. All my other c diff episodes I had diarhea…

I was treated so poorly by SCRIPPS MEMORIAl hospital in La Jolla!! I was often discharged and told to
Go get help for “anxiety” the doctors refuses to send my stool wow I had to beg a random student NP from a clinic. I finally from October 2023 till Dec 20th had to go in n out HOSPITALS for severe dehydration, finally Dec 20th I was shown positive for c diff!! With constipation of 1 BM every 3 weeks!! Imagine all of those toxins wow!!

I lost 40 lbs In under 50 days! I’m still losing, and I can’t walk much, I can’t eat or drink I suffer, I can have few sips of soup broth and I get IV fluids every week or so, and am trying to have pedialyte not with much luck. I wish for a peaceful departure from earth or from treatment from this hell 😭🙏🏽❤️ love you all, I’m very young at heart and in how I was raised, and biological clock I just turned 42 15 days ago…

Wow, here goes, 7 months ago I had colostomy surgery I am now wearing a bag until I die I'm 77 it's very difficult to me it's like a full-time job wearing that bag the history is 50 years of ulcerative colitis and two years ago I started with C diff I hold the record for 11 times it doesn't go away especially since you have to be on antibiotics I was on Vancomycin for a year and a half and side effects are never pretty on any of these drugs I never I've never been constipated it's always the opposite and then we come to the choice I continue to lose more and more weight and no end in sight getting better exhausted all the meds or the life saving surgery so there really is no choice because I would have died and now I get to live with this bag I'm glad I'm retired so I don't have to deal with being out in the world taking care of this bag mentally it's very difficult but it will get better I have a great support group on Facebook and you got to keep on what you're doing don't let up with these doctors all I know is the best outcome for me is no moral serrated colitis and no more C diff ever ever again because that one is a tough one remember you're a fighter keep on top of your care and ask questions and see what the long-term prognosis is for you and I say prayers for you and have a blessed day

Some words are misspelled but I know you can figure them out from my comment I left off that I had two fecal transplants in April of this year and they were not successful that's when it was decided that I needed to have surgery

Wait you exhausted life saving surgery ??? Are you saying that you had a fecal transplantation surgery where they put a healthy donor stool inside of you???

I believe that instead of a year and half of Vanconycin they should have given you FECAL transplant wow big pharma really takes advantage the older ya get huh..? So sad I wish you would still go and take fecal transplant surgery because it changes your life… a very famous surgeon did mine all because of how I advocated and I researched and told them hey why won’t you do it? All I need is 2 failed Vanconycin attempts. Omg if you had 11 c diff episodes you really qualified for it…

I have poor days and suddenly after using my lymphedema pump I’ll get better even within that very poor day like today!! And my belly doesn’t feel any major pain ever since I woke up from fecal transplant on Jan 20th 2024!!

Please know you still have hope and fecal transplant can help and you won’t need colostomy bag right?
