You should ask your psychiatrist for Flurazepam. It's strictly an insomnia medication. Was off the market for awhile, but I believe it's back. It works! Lunesta, Ambien, Temazepam, Estazolam, Trazodone....I've tried all those and none worked. Flurazepam works!
That's too bad. They could give you a low dose...it's so sad to me that they won't give people the medication that really works! They should realize that Sleep is Very IMPORTANT to everyone and contributes alot to our overall good health....but they are too stubborn....and against benzos....I'm here to tell everyone that benzos are the only thing that works for some people. Come on professionals....be reasonable
I was on ambien for 15 or so years until I changed a calendar and didn't remember doing it. Now I take xanax and hope for the best. I really don't know why I have difficulty. Never had this much until I starting these new meds. Hope that I adjust and can go back to my usual difficulty. I think a lot of it is too active a mind. Wish I knew. Liked the tips. Pot sounds good ... under the tongue. I suppose there is no inhaling for us!
terryb1, maybe you should ask your doctor to switch you from Xanax to Lorazepam. It's a sleep/anxiety med that really works. Xanax is mainly for anxiety. I have sleep and anxiety issues and my doctor recommended a medication that would help both issues...and it really has helped alot!
I just joined this site and am not sure how it works. I joined out of desperation for sleep. Have not been able to get to sleep or stay asleep for over 10 years without ambien. I take 6.25 extended release every night and it is no longer giving me more than 4 hours sleep. I am so tired and don't know what to do. My doctor has no knowledge of what severe insomnia is. Please help
montanasky, you need a doctor who will give you a medication that works for insomnia! And get off Ambien....it is not helping you! Quite the opposite! I take Lorazepam and it works great! Trazodone works for some people but did not work for me. If your doctor won't give you anything....switch doctors! Tell your doctor the Ambien is no longer working and you need something else....Good Luck!

Lorazepam can be addictive. I caution use of this. It also caused my speech to slur. And made me more at risk for falls, which happened and I broke my leg. So please be careful if you choose this drug.
barscr2, Excuse me but Xanax is just as addictive as Lorazepam. Seriously....and you do better with Xanax than Lorazepam....but I do fine with Lorazepam.....no slurred speech or falls for me. Maybe you were on a higher dose than me. I mainly use it at bedtime for sleep. But it just shows you that all medications affect people differently. Take care.
I suffered with sleep issues for many years. I was on Flexeril for TMJ for almost 30 years and began relying on it for sleep. An oral surgeon wanted me off it and my pcp agreed. Tried trazadone but that affected my liver enzymes.
I was then diagnosed with ovarian cancer and my pcp suggested lorazepam in 2020 because I was a mess. Got through surgery and chemo and began relying on that for sleep. A very low dose of .5 mg. Started struggling again with sleep, (I’d take benedryl at 3am), saw a sleep medicine doctor who wanted to wean me off the lorazepam and saw a sleep therapist and tried cognitive behavior therapy. Helped a little but not enough. Lack of sleep was causing dizziness, depression. Started taking lorazepam again but not helpful. Finally saw a different therapist who suggested doxepin, trazadone or mirtazapine. I slowly weaned off lorazepam and began taking 7.5 mg of mirtazapine. It has been life changing for me. I finally feel like myself again,
In writing all this, I am not recommending any particular approach or medication. We are each different. I chose not to increase lorazepam but go with a different class of medication based on research I’ve done and talking with many professionals. Each of us is different so what works for me may not work for you. Best of wishes to all reading this. Insomnia is horrible.
I take 500 mgs. of magnesium glycinate nightly about half an hour before bed. Naturebell is the brand I use ,but there are others. Got mine from Amazon. I'm weaning off Lexapro and having sleep issues. Turn off the screens and avoid caffeine and sugar a few hours before bed. Good luck.

Hello! I am very glad Remeron is helping you. I recognize everyone is different, but just as a precaution, I gained over 20 pounds in one month on Remeron. Just wanted to let you know so you are aware. Good luck!❤️
Thank you but my psychiatrist says I’m too old to use Flurazepam. I’m 77.

Glad the magnesium glycinate helps you. I tried it several years ago and it caused stomach issues. Was not really sure it helped. Those pills are big!
