Hello @freakers and let me add my welcome to Mayo Connect. As John wrote, I also encourage you to share your story with us. In this online community we have some incredibly strong people who have found very creative ways of dealing with chronic pain. They can encourage you in your search for answers as well as offer you support in knowing that you are not alone in this journey.

Please share more information with us, as you are comfortable doing so. For example, how long has your pain condition been a problem? What meds, or treatments (like physical therapy or exercise) has been tried? Any surgeries? We look forward to getting to know you better!

Anybody with Chronic pain should consider doing the Ketamine Therapy. That is where they put an IV in your arm. For me they recommended 4 hours sessions. The first 2 hours and the next day another 2 hour, but they doubled the dosage. I have had severe pain from neuropathy since 2008. I had this done about 2 weeks ago and the pain is considerably less. I am also taking trojans that is a compound with Ketamine in it. I think it is also helping. It is very expensive and insurance does not cover at this point because I think it is to new. Look it up.. I think it was worth it. I have been doing so much more since my treatments. Aggressively looking for a job and etc.

Thanks for the information. I'm going to add it to my list of questions for my appointment with the neurologist next week.

Hi @freakers . I like the name. Welcome to the pain club. My primary pain is from idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. I'm a curious person - some might call me nosy - so you've got me wondering about the source of your pain.

@mikween and @jimhd I was at a Minnesota Neuropathy Association meeting earlier this year where they brought in a doctor who was/is involved with bringing medical cannabis into the state. He has one of only 2 compounding pharmacies in Minnesota, Mayo Clinic Rochester is the other one. One of his topics was using ketamine in a compound for external use for neuropathy pain treatments. He said they also mix THC and CBD into creams that you can apply to areas with pain.

I'm not very good on technology so bear with me. I've had sciatic nerve pain for about 25 -30 years but the last 10 has been getting worse to unbearable for me anyway.so I had stenosis and scoliosis mixed with degenerative disease and finally had surgery 13 days ago, cleaned up a lot of blockage and fused 7 vertebrae.so far I can tell most of the nerve pain is gone. A new pain I'm not sure if it's from the screws into the hip bone on both sides but when it hits me it about knocks me over. Haven't fallen yet but that's my biggest fear. Any way I was wondering how long all of this surgery pain is supposed to last? I'm worried that the amount of narcotics I've been on for so long is making it not be enough. I have been on 50 mg fentynal patches and 10/375 hydrocodone for about 4 yrs from my family doctor and now traveled to Mayo Clinic for surgery, so different doctors 700 miles apart. Any input would be welcome.

Hi, Barbara @bblinder . I'm sorry you're having to give up gardening. It's so therapeutic. I've been working on our landscaping, trying to make it lower maintenance. I put down landscape cloth and cover it with mulch, to keep down the weeds. I'm planting mostly perennials and trees and bushes anymore. I know that regardless what we do, there will always be weeds to pull, and I use a hoe, and try to get them when they're just coming up. I keep a couple of spray bottles of Roundup close at hand to use when weeds get away from me. Some of them, I just leave because they're easier to pull up when they're taller, especially if the ground is wet. I keep cushions to kneel on and a cart that I can sit on. If I can, I just sit on the ground to work as far as I can reach, then slide over to the next spot. The challenge with that can be standing up again, which is when the cart comes in handy. I'll garden somehow, as long as I'm able. I have a lot of lawn, and I'm really grateful for my riding mower. I can do the whole job with it, and it's a 48 inch mowing deck, so the work goes pretty fast.

A neighbor in San Francisco had the ultimate low maintenance lawn. He poured concrete and painted it green.

Are you okay walking around the yard? At least there are some jobs that can be done standing up, with different types of hoes and other hand tools. I think that, even if I were in a wheelchair, I'd find things I could do, just to be outside and encouraging things along with a hose and some Miracle Grow. Maybe I could train my service dog to pull weeds.

Have a good evening, Barbara.

Brian @freakers . I'm delighted that it's worked for you. Will you have follow up therapy? Isn't it great to have some relief! I'm thankful every day for the help I've received.
