Slow degradation of my vision. Seeing a retina specialist

Posted by Bonita @bonitav, May 19, 2015

After a slow degradation of my vision, especially close as in computer usage, saw optician and after eye exam, received new lenses. Not much improvement, so I scheduled appointment with an ophthalmologist, who diagnosed very dry eyes, but with bleeding behind the retina in my left eye. Referred me to a retina specialist whom I see tomorrow. Any ideas what could be causing this other than retina detachment? About two years ago, had laser treatment for floaters. Wonder if this is related to that procedure. Can this also be related to a vascular problem? Thanks!

@bonitav Hi, I've been thinking about you and wondering if you had started treatment with Stelara yet? I hope you are feeling OK. All is well with me. Teresa

@hopeful33250, hi there. Strange you should ask about Stelara. Was scheduled for first infusion today but came down with a UTI this weekend and am taking antibiotic. Therefore, have to delay the infusion. I was anxious about it but wanted to get it going.
How is everything going with you? Happy Valentines!

Hi @bonitav; I'm sorry to hear about the UTI. I'm sure that you would have liked to get started with the Stelara and found out if it helped or not. All is going well with me. I'm working at keeping my energy level as constant as possible by not taking on too many tasks and keeping my schedule "reasonable." Sometimes that is hard to do, I think that I may be addicted to "busyness"! On Valentine's Day my daughter and I saw a real neat movie, A Dog's Purpose. A real cute movie, told all from a dog's perspective. If you would like a change of pace, I highly recommend it. How long do you have to wait after the UTI treatment before you can begin the Stelara? Keep in touch. Teresa

@bonitav, I want to inquire about your visit to the retina specialist. Were you able to find out about the bleeding behind your retina? Is there any treatment for it? I was diagnosed with a blood seepage in my right eye, but I think it is in front of retina. My condition is branch retinal vein occlusion. I receive treatment and regular checkups for it. Rosemary

@rosemarya .. I went to an opthamologist the first time I had a floater in my eye. He referred me to the retina specialist, who did a laser treatment for the floater. Then on a followup visit a year later, the occlusion in my eye was detected. That was treated with a series of injections into the blood vessel. I will return for followup in the near future. Hope you can find a specialist who can treat you.

Oh, I understand the 'busyness' issue Teresa, but have gotten caught up in political issues that keep my mind busy. Has detracted me from my reading though. Anyway, I do want to see A Dog's Purpose; I've seen the previews. I'm sure it was a real hoot! Am preparing for a move to a larger place not so far from here. Mostly just a mental process now... assessing the number of boxes I'll need, etc. So, not sure how long after the antibiotic I'll have to wait before I began Stelara. Will give the GI a call soon, or after I learn the outcome of the urine culture.. At any rate, glad you're doing well. Wish me luck with the move, etc. Bonnie.

Thank you, @bonitav. I am a 'regular' at the retina specialist. I've been going for 4 or 5 years. I have had a good response to the injections. After getting rounds of monthly injections pretty regularly, I'm finally stable. Last injection was in Dec. 2015! I still have to keep appointments every 3 - 4 months.
Thanks for your concern about me.
My vision in my right (affected) eye is like looking thru a donut or cheerio. ie there is a donut shaped dark spot, and I can see thru center or around outside. Weird, but apparently my left eye has learned to compensate for that.
I hope your followup goes well.
Rosemary

@bonitav I wish you well on your move, how exciting! Take care and allow others to help you with the work and packing. Remember you don't need to do it all. Teresa

Glad you have a retina specialist @rosemarya. Does the dr have a diagnosis for the right eye issue? I have mild onset of macular degeneration in one eye and take AREDS2 vision vitamins which have been clinically tested by Bausch and Lomb (think I spelled that right). Just so many things with my health but I manage to juggle appointments rather well. Hope you don't have as many docs as I do.. 🙂 My best to you! Bonnie.

@hopeful33250 I know I need help with packing, etc., but so often I've done things on my own. Have to admit I'm not as young as I once was. 🙂 Appreciate your concern. Bonnie.
