Trouble with my CPAP machine

Posted by margareto @margareto, Mar 4, 2012

does anyone know of a cpap machine that does not blow air continuously. Also, nose gets so stuffed up that prevents breathing via nose. Have to remove cpap and sit up. Any up to date machines?

I have a bi-pap machine. It forces are in while inhaling and lets up while exhaling. I felt like I was smothering with the c-pap.

your medical supplier should be able to change you to a full mask if you can adjust to it. I use a full mask myself instead of nostril.

are their any alternatives to the highly uncomfortable cpap machine?

Did you ever get an answer to your question? Sleep apnea, left untreated, can cause a number of serious health problems. If you wake up suddenly with a snort, or if someone tells you that you stop breathing, or if you snore, and maybe if you're overweight, you could have sleep apnea. You need to talk to a sleep doctor and perhaps have a sleep study. I suppose you've spoken to your primary doctor about this by now.

Write again if you have any questions or comments.

I was a mouth breather the first 50 years of my life, until I had surgery on a deviated septum. Wow! I had never been able to breathe through my nose before. Because I was a lifelong mouth breather, I needed to use a full face mask. I wore it faithfully for more than 15 years. After a recent sleep study, the doctor changed me to a BIPAP, I use nasal pillows. They're comfortable, and don't make loud leaking noises, as the full face mask did. Having a beard makes it harder to get a good seal.

Said all that to let you know that you have options. If one mask doesn't work, it might just mean trying a different size.

The doctor had me on Klonopin for anxiety, but it had a good secondary effect. I stopped acting out my dreams, especially the kicking. I only take 1mg, but it still seems to be working after 12 years.

Have you asked a doctor about something to calm your legs?

I went through a phase when I'd wake up with a panic attack, feeling smothered. I had to sit up, as well, and focus on my breathing to be able to lie back down. Sometimes, I use a nasal spray like Afrin, to open up my airway. I use a saline nasal spray every night and Refresh gel eye drops. It gets to be quite a process, doesn't it.
