I am skeptical, it makes no sense to me that random burning and killing off of brain cells will fix the physiological structures in the brain that were malfunctioning to cause the depression in the first place. The brain is complicated, we need more research to get to the root of the cause of chronic depression. Resorting to failed 1960's treatments seems like a copout to me. ECT didn't work for my mother during the dark ages of the mental health industry, why go backwards. There has to be something better.

Hi Piglit,
You didn't do anything wrong. You responded accordingly to the person whom I felt was offensive in saying ECT is a copout. It saves lives...

Im surviving and much better than I was but it's a struggle at times. I wanted to have the maintenance ECT but the headaches were intolerable because I already suffer from migraines. I still believe it saved my life.
Thank you for checking in! I always think of you..
Take care,
Rox

Nothing in medicine is 100%. You need to be more open minded and more informed before making such severe comments. For many, especially those that can't take antidepressants because they can't be tolerated, this is a very good alternative, other than suicide
