Autoimmune disease mistaken for mental disease

Posted by Lisa @techi, Aug 2, 2017

When l was at the Mayo Clinic my neurologist told me that my neurologist l had assumed instead of read my medical records that l had an Autoimmue disease. My gasterentologist knew because he referred me to a rheumatologist. So l was mad at that because of the symptoms l was having and they wanted to place me in a mental hospital. Then l also found out medicine l am allergic to they still have that l am taking. And one of the hospitals l go to and the my cardiologist l am seeing right now. My insurance is cancelling there contract with them and my insurance is a major insurance. So l called my cardiologist to see if she wanted to see me before the discontinue there services with the hospital and she tells me l wasn't treating you for anything so you can follow-up with general practice doctor. l believe they have been misdiagnosing people and running up insurances that they know will pay them well. So now l guess l have to come forward to my insurance that they were suppose to run a test that they didn't so they can take off my record that l have psychiatric issues instead of autoimmune issues. Sorry excuse of a medical hospital and its doctors. They said with the insurance company not renewing the contract will hurt 600 doctors and l am sure the employees too. Time to search for a new doctor!!!!

I did get placed in the mental health system and prescribed medications that have done damage. Suspected some of these may have contributed to the rapid bone loss, deep cataracts, nerve damage and other maladies as well. Be thankful you did not get kicked to the curb as a head case. Again, why do MD's have "malpractice" insurance?

sometimes i think the doctor has his or her own issues to hurt someone to make themselves feel better. they have to much control over our lives. they are not god and have the same mental issues as us the patients! keep you faith in yourself we understand.

Amen. If it wasn't for the Lord on my side where will l be? I give him all the praise. And l have to continue to look forward. On my record when l fell in the store the emsa drivers put on my chart that l said l had to pray first. Thank God that even when l am unconscious l put him first. I listen to a cd that no weapon formed against me shall prosper. And l believe that 100%.

I have had the same problem with several doctors who made the claim that I was psycho. A cardiologist started the crap, and it spread like wildfire around the NW and SW, AZ to Seattle. I was rejected by a rheumatologist, several cardiologists, several major centers, a hepatologist group, etc. My Rheumy even told me to stop looking for my problem. After a while, I found a PA who believed me, then a GE, and finally a Hematologist. And in the meantime, I have studied as hard as I could. I bought an expensive book, and contacted companies which produce meds for my disorder. I now know more than most docs about the disorder. Anyway, study hard, and change docs if you need to. You don't need the crap.

yes and oh boy! finally another one of us sees where quite a number of doctors are coming from. (so very, very hurtful and harmful). it is a shame for the more humane doctors to be associated with these unacceptable people called doctors. keep believing in yourself.

Hello @techy, I understand where you are coming from. I have MS, the symptoms started when I was in my twenties. The Duckters told me that I was imagining it, It was all in my head, I just wanted attention. They sent me to a shrink. 25 years later a woman Dr. who migrated from India said it was in my head because that's where the most damage occurs. I kept going from Dr. to Dr. till I got one that listened to me and respected me. One of the Dr. told me "He was the Professional Dr. and I was only the patient who didn't Know anything so I should shut up and listen to him. I live in this body. I know it intimately. Who knows better what is going on more than you in you're body? Be you're own advocate and keep pushing for answers. Best of luck to you and remember that whatever it turns out to be, It may have you're body but it cannot have you if you don't let it. Chin up Always!

Thank you so much. Its just so tragic when not only your doctors but also your hospitals misdiagnosis and try to cover up. And patients are wasting their money and doctors who are overcharging your insurance for care that's absured. And putting things on your medical records that in correct with mental diagnoses. So then the patient either have to get it changed and maybe have to sue to do so. And the hospitals and doctors get away with this. I know they are not perfect or they know everything but be honest and don't let the patient or family have to deal with the consequense. This week l went last week to get copies of my medical records and still they have meds l am allergic to and l notified them since 2015, what does that say about our healthcare system? And if l didn't get my records l wouldn't be able to tell them for the 15th time and this could cause me my life. So l will be seeing my general practice doctor this week and l will tell him that when his nurses tell me that the clinic and hospital get the same information when they put in the computer, l wonder what will he say????. Thank God l don^t have altemizhers. And in 2014 when they were giving me all these meds tbat l was having a reaction to they wanted to send me to a nursing home because again their mistakes and they didn't know what to do, but again l say l am so blessed to be alive. You are such a great mentor and l hope you see the fustration that we are going through because maybe with proper and honest care some of our problems could have been avoided or even if not we have trust in our healthcare teams. And it shouldn't be about money its should be about helping your patient no matter what, if not you are in the wrong career.

Again I will state-why their insurance is called malpractice insurance. The way bills are padded and charges made for services not rendered...goes on their plate.
