Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.

Hello. I believe I have Fibro also. Even though my doctor called it something else. My aunt has it and she kept telling me I had it and I kept dismissing her. I was going to the doctors for pain and numbness in my hands. When I went nothing was going on so pretty much I was pronounced crazy I am sure. One doctor went so far as to say I was trying to get false worker's comp and I was not even filing for workers comp. The rhematory doctor I went to called it myalga even though I had a lot of the trigger points. Most doctors do not or did not believe in Fibro. so I was dismissed of wanting pain meds. No, I am not addicted to anything. I have a problem taking medicine because I do not want the side effects or the after effects. Besides trying different medication for depression some which is used for Fibro. I did not stay on them long because of side effects. I did notice that water therapy did the most good for me. Could not continue to go because of money issues but I know after a few sessions I felt so much relief from pain. I was on 12 different medication at one time when I realized I was taking one medicine to compensate for another and so on. I got off of all of them but the IBS medication and muscle relaxer. These I take as needed so am not on them all the time. The rest I through away and did feel better for the most part. The medicine was causing me more problems than the problem itself. I am not a doctor or nurse so this is my own personal observation. Everyone is different and different things help them that did not help me. Am I still in pain. Yes all the time. I learned if I moved instead of just sitting or laying down I feel better. Walking is good for you. Some days the pain is worse than others. Some day my depression is worse than others. I get by in thinking to my self there is people out there so much worse than you are and I need to just keep going and quit feeling sorry for myself. I believe God has brought me around too. This is my own personal experience and I am not telling any of you that you should do the same. Everyone is different and I pray you find the right medication and right exercise for you. God bless.

Try these diet modifications and stop these items one at time: pork, beef, shellfish, all wheat breads, white potatoes, white sugar.

Hey, I enjoyed your post for a couple of reasons. You are so right about being called “crazy”. If it weren't so sad I would laugh because I am quite sure that I have been called many similar names. I think the worst thing is to accidentally see the letters “NOI” meaning no obvious illness in bold magic marker written on your chart. I once went into an emergency room because I could walk without falling to the side. I was given an MRI, a CT, a gallbladder US, a heart exam, and others amounting to thousands of dollars of tests. Their diagnosis? I must have accidentally taken too much of my meds, which of course had not! The one thing they didn't do was done in the doctors ofice the next day:the main reason for imbalance: a ear exam. Turns out I had ear inflammation that virtually closed off the ear canal, Over the years the stories really add uo for all of us. Second reason, I like your positive attitude. Moving when we can does help. And for those of us who practice a faith, it means that we always have someone that we can talk to, cry to, when we don't want to upset those we love. This, too, comes from my own beliefs in respect that others have differing methods of helping themselves. Be blessed1

Lioness, I forgot to mention also that I use only filtered water...using the pitchers that one can buy. Although we are on city water we are at the very end of the line..yuk!, and the filtered water is really good.I bought a small pitcher for our bathroom and two large ones for the kitchen one or the fridge and the other for room temp.

Hi All,

I went for my 3 week post lumbar injection follow up. My pain doc, who led me to believe there were still a couple of more tricks up his sleeve, said he really does not know what else he can do. He did suggest giving me another shot only in a different place since the last 2 shots did not help. He also suggested that I discuss the possibility of surgery with my neurosurgeon (since I am doing better since my cervical surgery).

My hubby and I went back and forth about whether or not I should take another shot. Hubby thinks since the doc did not sound too confident, why should I? After going over it in my mind, I've decided to try. Before I even entertain another surgery, I want to make sure shots are no longer an option.

So, in about 2 weeks I will get my shot and in 3 weeks I will see the surgeon. I should know what is happening by then.

Did they have a copy of your MRI so they could see exactly where to place the injection? I received my 2nd injection 8 days ago and while the pain is not totally gone, it is much improved. Most of the time I can manage with no pain medication and at night, I usually take two Tylenol. I really don't want any kind of surgery at my age. (86)

Fibro for now is the enemy-tuckered to the point of not even wanting to try. Depression has roared and my strength wanes. Pathetic. shame on me for being weak.
