Jun 21, 2021 | Ravindra Ganesh | @rganesh2603

People who have been infected with COVID-19 often experience symptoms long after their infection has resolved. Mayo Clinic has developed programs which may help improve some of these continued symptoms. For help with symptoms lasting 0-3 months past the COVID-19 infection, see the COVID-19 Activity Rehabilitation Program.

For symptoms lasting longer than 3 months after infection, our team of physicians, nurses, and health and wellness specialists work with people experiencing post-COVID-19 syndrome to develop and use self-management tools. These tools can help decrease post-COVID-19 symptoms and improve overall functioning and quality of life.

Dr. Ravindra Ganesh, Medical Director of the Post-COVID-19 Care Clinic at Mayo Clinic describes the clinic and how the clinic partners can help you.

Hi, I am Dr. Ganesh from the Mayo Clinic, here to talk to you about Mayo’s Post COVID 19 Care Clinic.

Most people who have COVID-19 recover within a few weeks. However, some people still have symptoms long after the usual recovery time. They may even have new symptoms.  You may hear this referred to as post-COVID syndrome or “long COVID.”

If you are affected by post-COVID syndrome, you are likely worried and frustrated. You want to get back to your normal life, but the symptoms keep getting in the way. Know that our health care providers in Mayo Clinic’s Post COVID 19 Care Clinic can help. Our clinic sees people who have post-COVID symptoms for longer than three months.

We can help manage symptoms and start you on a path toward recovery.

Our clinic is a team of specialists from many areas overseen by General Internal Medicine. Team members include physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, as well as health coaches.

People who have multiple symptoms start in General Internal Medicine.  For people whose symptoms are limited to one area, they are directed to that specific specialty.

When you first come to Mayo Clinic’s Post COVID 19 Care Clinic, you begin by meeting with a provider who completes a thorough evaluation, including discussing your medical history and current symptoms, and doing a physical examination. We use the information learned during the evaluation to help develop a personal treatment plan.

The provider may order several tests to rule out other medical conditions or complications. Once these are ruled out, you may be diagnosed with post-COVID syndrome. At this point, you may be referred to a specialty area depending on the symptoms you have.

Mayo Clinic’s Post COVID 19 Care Clinic is here to help when you continue to have symptoms three months after a positive COVID test. Contact us by calling the appointment office at 507-538-3270 and asking for the post-COVID 19 Care Clinic.  You can also click the appointment tab in the upper right-hand corner of this website.

Let us help you manage the symptoms and get you on a path to recovery!
