Traveling can be a confusing experience for people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias and their families. The Dementia Friendly Airports group has been working to make airports across the country more accessible to those living with dementia and their caregivers.

Currently, ten airports across the country are recognized as dementia-friendly, including major hubs such as Denver International Airport, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport, and Seattle Tacoma International Airport. These airports are part of initiatives such as the Sunflower Program, which distributes lanyards to those with hidden disabilities so staff knows they may need a little extra assistance.

In addition to providing training for airport staff, the Dementia Friendly Airports group has video guides and resources available for people with dementia navigating an airport. These resources include knowing your rights, the flight process from start to finish, and tools for travel.

Wow! We just flew to and from Msp a week ago. How do you get the lanyard? SW was made aware I was traveling with my s/o and the ticket showed it as well. I sure could have used some help but I guess I just don’t know to ask.
