Is the Pain Rehabilitation Center right for you?

The Pain Rehabilitation Center (PRC) is dedicated to helping individuals improve their daily functioning and overall quality of life due to chronic pain and symptoms. Many patients enter the program with a long history of persistent symptoms that have not responded to traditional treatments. Often, they have received multiple diagnoses, as symptoms tend to span several areas of the body and do not align with a single, clear-cut condition. Common diagnoses seen prior to admission at the PRC include, but are not limited to:

Abdominal and gastrointestinal conditions

Chronic Pain

Chronic Fatigue

Chronic Migraine

Fibromyalgia

Functional Neurological Disorder

Generalized Pain

Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Neuropathic pain

Non-epileptic spells

Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS)

Ehlers Danlos Syndrome/Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (EDS/HSD)

Regardless of the diagnoses that patients have received, the PRC takes a holistic approach to care, rather than focusing on a single set of symptoms. The PRC recognizes that chronic pain and symptoms can greatly diminish a person’s ability to function and engage in everyday activities. The PRC also recognizes the psychological toll of chronic pain and symptoms. For this reason, the PRC emphasizes a comprehensive care model that addresses the entire person rather than one diagnosis or condition.

If you believe that you are right for the PRC, please refer to the Admission Process tab for more information.

@rwinney I so seldom check in so my apologies. There is a reason for it however. In PRC, we do not talk symptoms, diagnoses, or prognoses because we trick our brain to think we are healthier than we are - and for me, I feel healthier than I did in my forties at 70. I went into PRC with a walker and around the clock oxygen. I also had been given a death sentence diagnosis just before I was to start the 15 day program which may have been a first for them. I was so deconditioned, I could barely get myself from bed to bathroom. Almost 3 years after graduating, I am without oxygen, my "death sentence" issue has stayed stable instead of progressing, I am 40 lbs lighter, and on no prescription meds except for brief, acute periods such as surgery which btw, we recover faster from and with less meds. I call PRC Mayo Clinic School to learn to be your healthiest - and HAPPIEST self because beyond the physical tools, we learn so much more about other things that impact our well being - stress/time/anger management plus forgiveness to name a few. At 67 years of age, I learned that self care is not selfish and that not every relationship has to end in kumbaya. I wish every single person on the planet could attend this program, especially young people maybe in middle school. I am not sure they would ever need a Mayo Clinic if taught about all the ways our health is impacted. My life is so much better though different than when I got here. (I actually stayed in JAX after graduation instead of returning to Tallahassee.) Yes, PRC is a commitment, but there are ways to make it work $ and otherwise. If I can help someone explore options, I am glad to if in a position to do so at the time. Life and health matters still need attention after PRC, but the difference is as a grad, you come away with tools to handle it. And to keep it working, you gotta' work it everyday going forward. I never want to go back to where I was so I tap into the lifelong support available from the PRC team when needed and do my best to follow the program each day. That includes walking 5 days per week for me which I now LOVE as I do volunteer ushering at the historic FL Theatre in downtown JAX. (Photo from the Usher Awards dinner from a couple of weeks ago. I am seated to the right.)

@tallyteresa Fantastic to hear that you are still working the program and the program is still working for you. Congrats on your perseverance, and thank you for mentioning that it's a lifelong commitment. You look great and that smile says a lot!

Tallyteresa and @2boymom, I'd like to introduce you to @tomb1 who mentioned being a fellow grad of the PRC. I'm hoping they might share some of their rehabilitation experience and how the program works.

Have a wonderful day everyone 😊

@tallyteresa and @rwinney, so glad to see you’re both still doing amazing after graduating the PRC program. PRC is an amazing life saving program that helps us live our best lives by using the tools PRC teaches and following their very moderation guided, stable and flexible planned out program.

I graduated six and a half years ago, May 2019. And I just graduated again October 2025. I was living the ideal C life!! I was enjoying life that I hadn’t lived in the 14 years when I was in my B life. I was the typical C lifer with a little of that A life that snuck back in, and I thought I didn’t need the entire PRC process anymore(silly me). Parts here and there but not the entire program.
Well somewhere in 2023/2024 my “pine cones” of life were lit on fire. Before I knew it, another acute issue came about and then another what I thought was acute, turned out to be part of my chronic symptoms. And within one day I had a fully involved forest fire. Fine one day, not fine the next. Then I had a few additional emotional forest fires start up and before I knew it , my entire world was on fire!! This was because I had been “living life” but without the Living the “C”, PRC program fully engaged. I was in trouble. I reached out to Dr Sletten professionally, individually. The last time I saw him I couldn’t form a sentence without turning into a puddle on the floor. He said you know what I’m going to say? I shook my head No, and he said you need to come back to PRC. I said okay just like that. He told me I didn’t fail, my body failed me. He walked me to the PRC front office and got me scheduled. Not for the week “defrag” refresher but for the complete 3 week reboot. Completely wipe the hard drive and reinstall the program. I’m beyond thankful for Dr. Sletten and his team for helping me back onto the proverbial “PRC horse”.
@rwinney you and I “met” via the zoom chat a few years ago, I’m Rhonda. Glad to see you’re still doing well!!

@rlbooker5590 Hi Rhonda. I thought that might be you! Wow, thanks so much for being vulnerable enough to share your reentry to the PRC. That takes courage. Having been through the program, I know exactly the type of courage. You should be very proud.

How amazing that you not only eventually recognized the need but we're brave enough to take the step forward again in your rehab journey. You've just helped educate other members that the PRC does not claim to fix or cure anyone. There are no promises that it's going to be easy and no one's going to do it for you. It takes commitment and desire for change, and life may continue to throw curve balls.

This comprehensive plan PRC teaches (I call it a blue print) for willing participants is about how to live with and work towards accepting chronic pain and symptoms. It's no easy path that's for sure and they pull no punches educating about that . Dr. Sletten advises that we need to be all in for life on this journey.

Again, thank you for sharing, which helps others (including me), but also to share in a way that stays true to the PRC principles by not exhibiting pain behaviors. I'm glad you found Connect to be a safe space in order to do that. Keep up the good work!
