November is National Family Caregivers Month—a time to recognize and support the millions of family members who provide essential care to loved ones. In the U.S., more than half of those providing care don’t identify themselves as caregivers, even though their role is vital.
This observance was established to raise awareness of caregivers’ sacrifices and challenges. Each year, the Caregiver Action Network (CAN) selects a theme. This year’s theme, #CaregivingHappens, highlights that caregiving often begins unexpectedly, isn’t always convenient, and can disrupt daily life.
Many caregivers juggle these responsibilities while managing their own lives, often sacrificing personal time, finances, and well-being. Research shows caregivers are at higher risk for stress, burnout, and health concerns, making community support essential.
Throughout November, the Stephen and Barbara Slaggie Family Cancer Education Center is offering a variety of activities to recognize and honor family caregivers across the country. This month-long celebration is an opportunity to connect with other caregivers and recharge your mind, body, and spirit. Visit the Cancer Education Events page to learn more.
We invite you to share in the comments how you’ve experienced #CaregivingHappens and what advice you have for making caregiving a little easier—or for caring for yourself.
