Heather Berg, a Technical Resource Specialist at Mayo Medical Laboratories in Rochester, started her blood donor experience as a student volunteer at her local high school blood drive.

“I picked up a phone book and started calling people to encourage them to give blood,” says Berg. “The number of donors at the blood drive doubled by simply talking to strangers—it was amazing.” After working the phones for many days, Berg became a first-time donor at that event.

Berg began her career at Mayo more than 11 years ago, and her dedication to blood donation has never waned. She says, “It’s remarkable that you can donate during work hours, if approved by your supervisor. I am so grateful that my employer offers this option. It’s a great incentive.
