Using an Improv Approach in Communication

When communicating with a person who has dementia, it’s essential to meet them where they are- in their reality. Past ways of thinking about “reality orientation” or correcting, is not helpful and impacts emotional wellbeing negatively.  Using an Improv approach that is modeled in this video, is a great way to say “yes, and…” instead of “no” and correcting.  This approach of building upon the experience and actively engaging , makes space for everyone to feel connected.
