New Volunteer: Martha Bowman
Please welcome one of our newest MCVP volunteers, Martha Bowman! Martha graduated from Mayo Medical School in 1984 and then worked as a physician at OMC. Now retired, she will be volunteering weekly at the Eisenberg Subway Welcome Desk on the Methodist campus.
Q: Are you originally from the Rochester area? If not, where else have you lived?
A: I was born at SMH and raised on a farm east of town. I have lived in Madison, WI (college years), Côte d'Ivoire in West Africa (Peace Corps years), and Minneapolis. I now live back on the farm with my husband.
Q: When you aren't volunteering, what else do you like to do?
A: Since we raise sheep and have an abundance of wool, I have started a wool dryer ball business. We also (pre-pandemic) loved to host barn dances on the farm!
Q: What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?
A: Antidepressants, narcotics, and antibiotics! (Spoken from the practical perspective of a physician!)
Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?
A: Having 3 children who seem to be happy and productive members of our world.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Mayo Clinic?
A: As a child, I loved the rare occasion when we'd be able to go to the public library (now the Mayo Medical School). If there was time, I'd sneak away to the Mayo Medical Museum. It certainly sparked my interest in health care.
