Last week, Alzheimer's Researchers, physicians, and more gathered in Amsterdam in the Netherlands to share research updates in the field of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. One study, announced by a group called Aging and Cognitive Health Evaluation in Elders (ACHIEVE) revealed that hearing aids slow cognitive decline in older adults with hearing loss by 48%.

The National Institutes of Health report that 1 in 3 Americans between the ages of 65 to 74 has hearing loss. ACHIEVE is the largest randomized control trial studying hearing aids to reduce long-term cognitive decline in adults, looking specifically at older adults aged 70-84 years. The results reported in this study exceed the effectiveness of current drugs on the market.

Researchers will continue to follow participants to look at longer term effects. Read the press release Here. Read the article in Lancet Here.
