Next month, a member of the Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) staff will run the New York City Marathon in support of FTD Research. Steve Smith, a Senior Program Coordinator at the ADRC, will toe the start line as a member of the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration team, raising money for FTD research.
“I have worked in Dementia research since 2017 and I have seen the impact FTD has on patients and their families," shared Steve. "During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our research operations shutdown for the safety of our patients. I thought of how the shutdown would impact our patients and families and I began looking for a way to contribute to dementia research while our research operations were paused. I partnered with AFTD to run the New York City Marathon. Since then, our fundraising team has raised over $30,000 for AFTD."
