This past month, through our support groups and educational offerings, we have focused on HOPE. This can be a difficult topic and we won’t sugar coat or add silver linings to anyone’s experiences, but we will be present and validate each person’s unique journey.
As we are heading into the holiday season- no matter what holiday or how you may celebrate- we are mindful that this can be a difficult time of year for people living with dementia and those who love and care for them. The busy-ness, the to-do lists, the noise and exhaustion. We want to encourage you and your loved one to make space for calm and self-care, however that might look for you. Saying “no” might be saying “yes” to you and your needs during this time.
We’d like to share some JOY and HOPE with you. During our recent Mayo Clinic Conference on Brain Health and Dementia, we featured many innovators during a segment called “HOPEFEST”. This video highlights what it’s like to participate in a chorus for people with dementia and their support partners, and how they pivoted during the pandemic to a virtual space. It was created by Giving Voice in the Twin Cities, and includes many other choirs in Minnesota. We hope that you enjoy the stories, the music and the joy shared by those who sing in these choirs!
