Anyone had Zometa alone or Zometa plus Xgeva?

Posted by richardab @richardab, Jan 25, 2023

My heme/onc has prescribed Xgeva plus Zometa treatments for my Smoldering Myeloma next month. Anyone who's been treated with this combination or just with Zometa? There are discussion groups here for Xgeva b7t not Zometa. Thank you.

Hi @richardab, I'm tagging a few members who have experience with Zometa (zoledronic acid)
or Xgeva (denosumab) or both like @schmeeckle64 @auntioakley @survivorjennifermoreno @catlady7 @wandering @ccfyates and more.

I was on xgeva for 6 years. Caused me to have osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). It is a side effect from the medication. Several doctors have told me they would not keep a patient on Xgeva for more than 2 years. ONJ is a very serious disease and can cause the jaw to deteriorate and break. I have not gone through the repair process as it is a very long term and serious procedure.

My husband had Prostate Cancer with a spread to his hip. He was seen by San Francisco State University Medical Center and they prescribed an infusion of Zometa three times a week with Ketokonasol by mouth daily. He did not have any further bone cancers.

Hi! I was on Xgeva for about a year and my oncologist took me off of it. I not really sure why as I didn't have any side effects. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
